This is probably a CPF legend, but I seem to remember some posts about them originally being made for wine stewards in restaurants, etc.

From what I see they look like purple e1e and e2e. Is the difference just their color?

They are really closer to a burgundy redish than a purple. IIRC they were named for the color and intended use, and made for wine enthusiasts to check the color and/or transparency of a glass of wine.

What BIGIRON and Xrunner said. . .Exactly what SureFire intended it for—Wine Stewards and Enthusiasts. Not to mention its hue. . .
