I was browsing the local Wally World the other day and stopped in the flashlight aisle to pick up a Mag Solitaire (I ordered a LED Replacement TL-3 drop-in module...). I was suprised to find some new colors there instead of the usual red/blue/silver ones! The WalMart I was at had four new colors of Solitaires: futia, "shimmer" blue, purple and lime green. I'm not a big Mag fan, but as far as Solitaires are concerned, these have been some pretty hard colors to come by in the past. I picked up a lime green one to put my TL-3 in when it arrives! Just a "FYI" item...

I would like more info on this TL-3 LED module for the Solitare.
Who makes it ? Where can I buy one?

I am glad to see Mag finally innovating with new colors. I was about to give up on their R&D department.

If the best the Mag R&D folks can do is change the colors of a few lights, we need to give up on them. I'm still amazed they haven't at least made some weak attempt to enter the LED world with their own products.

Any 2AA minimags in those outreageously pretty colors?

I've been watching them carefully and no, the standard Maglite AA colors hang below the new Solitaire colors. The Maglite AAs have not made any change that I have seen.

How bright is it? I know it has to be way better than the standard bulb. Do you have a beam shot?

The LT-3 is $23.00 roughly. one poster said it's about as bright as a 35K LED
AAA light, one thought it was sorta dim. One other poster mentioned the fact for the 20-30$ mark there are many better brighter purpose made LED lights on the market then putting 23 buck in a 5$ light.

But I do love messing with the solitaire, and i will most likely get one too. I got a couple of 26K and nichia CS modded soli's that kill a ARC (especially throw) but must run on a 3.7 Li ion. (but run forever!) But it would be nice to have a couple for emergency use in car or guitar cases.I do need to learn to post pic's, I got a soli mod vs and ARC and peak pic that is pretty good.

I think properly done the soli reflector is incredably well suited for a 5mm LED. The parabolic curve is just perfect for postioning a 5mm LED. VDG

The ONE(and that may be all) nice thing about the Solie is that
even though it's light output is almost useless, it is a thrower for
it's output. Of course that's considering you haven't carmelized
the bulb by running through half a set of batts etc.

This thing definately needs more than a fresh coat of paint.

Agreed. with 5mm it's just in it's element. I have even extended the reflector
on a couple to get even more outta it, but stock with the LED sitting inthe curve, it's mostly clean, with throw and spill. One tip i always mention on a soli mod thread is drill the hole for the 5mm, don't sand off the bottom, you lose throw. And ditch the little plastic len's. world of a difference. VDG

Voodoo,

Have you got any beamshots? I'm probably not alone in
thinking that the stock upgrade might not be much of an
improvement.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't mean "stock" I meant basicall the
3mm "drop in". What I meant was that there
was no modding/cuting/hacking/sanding etc.

Thanks

Yeah me too, I can't see it being a big step up either. I would like to see
terralux do a drop in either a nichia CS 5mm or a luxeon. I built one around
a microstar, but with the SMD LED it just sit's too low to take advantage of the reflector, and just doesn't produce anything but a really bright flood.
I talked with terralux and there working on one, i even sent some of my
reflectors to them for research. If someone comes up with a great mass produced pop in i think it will be them. BTW got your PM and will give that
pic thing a shot! VDG
