I'm looking into well regulated 2AA powered LED flashlights with some decent side spill (no total spots will be included) and the lights below are what I've located so far. Some of the runtime charts I've located were taken with rechargeables, some with lithium and some with alkaline.

I've only included lights for which I could find runtime charts. Some of the charts were provided by the sellers and some were provided by independent reviewers.

I'll start with the Luxeons, Jupiters and clones:

The Smartfire 2AA 3w from Emilion is the brightest I've found.
http://emilionworkshop.com:3072/osc...d=231&osCsid=b0b9a62cd0f7189c9fbcaefac697c8be
650 lux regulated for 2.5hrs using Ni-mh reghargeables.
ernsanada's review http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=89871

The Nextorch Mini Magic 1w with the 2AA attachment from Emilion is also pretty good:
http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=96956
500 lux regulated for 4hrs using Ni-mh rechargeables.

Costco 2AA 1w(for which a lot of threads are available).
http://flashlightreviews.com/reviews/costco_luxeon2aa.htm
425 lux pretty flat for 4.5hrs using alkalines.

ElectroLumens XM-3 3w
http://flashlightreviews.com/reviews/elektrolumens_xm3.htm
390 lux pretty flat for 1.5hrs on alkalines

Heliotek HTE-1 (Rev 2) 1w
http://flashlightreviews.com/reviews/heliotek_hte-1rev2.htm
2600 lux extremely flat for 7hrs on Energizer lithiums.

I didn't find any 3mm or 5mm lights with flat runtime charts.

DROP INs

Opalec Newbeam http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/opalec_newbeam.htm
36 lux completely flat for 10hrs on alkalines.

I hope that this list is not exhaustive and that more well regulated 2AA lights do exist out there.

Please direct me to runtime charts for other very well regulated 2AA lights and I will try to add them to the above list in this first post. I suspect that several of the lights for which I only found runtime charts using alkaline batteries would have much flatter discharge curves using either lithium or rechargeables. I invite all charts with flat discharge curves regardless of the battery types.

Have you had a look at the runtime stickies in the Review Forum? There are a few folks with runtime charts. If you don't mind the price tag, the Heliotek looks awesome!

I took a quick look at the runtime stickies, the ones I saw didn't have lux values, so I didn't include them in my list. Yes, the Heliotek runtime is impressive for 2AA and the diffuser is a nice touch. I think that the price and the size keep it from being more popular.

An excellent combination of runtime/beam/throw/price in a 2AA luxeon form factor is the Nuwai ALX-2512AA. Runtime is rated at more than 4 hours, nice wide hotspot, decent throw, for $22!

It is reviewed here:

You can buy it here:

I just ordered three for Christmas gifts to send to my non-flashaholic relatives. I should be receiving them soon.

I have the single CR123 version of this light (the ALX-2611X), and if the 2AA performs similarly, I will be very pleased! Here is a review of the CR123 version. It looks like the head and electronics are identical.

Of course, I really like my Peak Caribbean with the optional 2AA body and Kroll clickie tailcap (or even my Fenix L1P for $45), but I wouldn't spend that kind of $$ for non-flashaholics! At $22, the Nuwai ALX-2512AA is a real bargain.

These are no longer sold, right? I couldn't find them as of two days ago.

They're no longer sold in their original form at Costco, but they're still available in an upgraded form under the Smith & Wesson lable and the two lights are packaged with a head lamp for $50 +.

Some of the originals are available occasionally on the BST forum or on E-bay.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the 2512aa discharge curve isn't flat enough using the alkaline batteries to qualify for this application of VERY well regulated lights. For this thread, I'm interested in lights that maintain at least 75% of the original measurement until they fall completely out of regulation. I suspect that this light would have much flatter discharge curve using rechagreable or lithium batteries, but I don't have a runtime chart to demonstrate that.

Thanks Steve. I'll add this one just because of it's rock solid regulation. It's way dimmer than I'm looking for, but may be just right for someone else.

The NEW Streamlight Luxeon Jr.is supposed to be regulated 4 hours. Brightguy is the only retailler I know that clearly identifies the regulated from the older unregulated model.

The original was regulated. SL reduced the output somewhat for a fairly significant increase in runtime. About 2.5 to 4 hours I think. In either case, an excellent light.

The SL Lux Jr. http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/streamlight_jr_luxeon.htm has better regulation than most 2AA lights on alkalines, but not quite as flat as I'm looking for for this thread. With lithiums or rechargeables, it may be much flatter, but I don't recall where the runtime charts are that use rechargeables and I don't think anyone has done a runtime chart using lithiums.

Peak Glacier Bay, Caribbean and Mediterranean CR123A lights can be fitted with a 2AA body. You choice of twisty or Kroll clickie for switching. All three are current regulated, HA-III and run on NiMH or alkies.

Can you direct me to any runtime plots for those lights with the 2AA body?

Glire, I'm also waiting for reviews and runtime plots of Fenix L2.
