Do Anyone Else Do This With Their Surefire U2? Candle w/ F04?

One of the things that have anoyed me about my U2 is the fact that I can't stand it on its tailcap. This feature is very useful and not being able to do it made me mad...

The other day I was playing with the diffusion filter (F04) for the E-series Surefire lights while I had my U2 out.. I suddenly got the idea to put it on on the tailcap...

Sure enough I popped the lens out and not the rubber portion of the F04 gives the U2 a perfect stand... its pretty solid... and it also doubles as a anti-roll device... protects the U2 from drops... Highly Recomend it...

Don't have access to a camera or else I would put pics up...

To stand my L1 or U2 on end for a ceiling bounce I made
a small wooden block with a hole drilled in it. I use it mainly
at home during power failures.

It works OK, but is a pain in the *** to carry. .........

I tried the F04 diffusion filter and it work very well. I'm
going to order another one just for my U2.

Great Idea ............

Thanks

Well spotted. I don't have an F04 to spare that I can knock the lens out of, but I can borrow one from my L1 temporarily if I need to.

Here's a picture of what mine looks like. Without the lens you could push the F04 on a bit further:

Surefire should consider this as an accessory for the U2 .........

I agree - SureFire should offer rubber 'protectors' for the bezel and TailCap.
They offer these of Beasts after all!
I'd use them on my TurboHead SureFires without a doubt.

I was thinking of something a bit more compact and streamlined then an FM BeamFilter but I do use them also.

I use an SW02 TailCap on one of my M4's, and a Z48 on one of my M3T's.

Instead of killing a good F04 you might want find the mini mag accessory pack. Its size is similar and since the lenses are removable it can still be used with the filters if needed. I used one on a G2 for this same reason.

Thanks for the inspiration. I just did the same thing. Nice solid candle mode...anti roll. The F04 costed me only $8.00 so definitely this is a worth it investment even if it means killing something perfectly good. =P
