I guess the pilots used NVG?

A decent light/spotlight will turn into the sun if you're using NVG's without the "cutoff function" (Don't know what the right term is, I've only handeled NVG that could be destroyed by direct light)

I've heard the best way to blind a copter is to use one of those very bright flairs you shoot up into the air that lights up everything.

I dont recall where the story was posted, here or else where I visit, but think I read a story where someone spotlighted a police helecoptor and he ended up getting arrested.
