so by alternator died and to conserv the truck's battery we had only the running lights on and were driving by flashlight.

its kida scary when a stock maglite's stronger than your headlights....

my modded UX1L dorcy metal gear
stock maglites
and 1.5 million candlepower flashlight bough us an extra 15 miles...until we died 90 miles from home at 2am

luckily a family member has a nice big truck with flatbed :-D

Wow, what a story! Glad you made it out ok in the end. Sometimes runtime does indeed matter. Keep a SC1 full of spares and a couple of Surefires in there :)

Around here you wouldn't have made it more than 3 or 4 miles before the popo pulled you over and wrote you a big fat Class B ticket.. :ohgeez:

We were 67 miles from home when the last working dashboard light failed. Cant see the guages at all now. Took a mag light and laid it up there at an angle and defocused it for a flood beam and it worked.

We had a friend who had no lights from a wiring issue and we just agreed to let them follow us to their home, then we drove to ours.

THe old golf diesel 86 model we had with the 3rd brake light and the 85 model without it was great at throwing the alternator belt. The 85 model could drive an hour without lights or any crap on. The 86 would cut out after an hour when the brakes were used. Seemed the third light took just enough power to de-energise the fuel cut off solonoid.
