I just bought myself a shiny new 2d mag with the intention of modding it to some combination of luxeon leds. I am thinking about the quad lux or tri lux, how well do these throw? How complicated would this be for someone with limited electronic ability to get their head around? I have seen it done with two drivers, how would that work?
Also would i be able to get away with 3 or 4 lux Vs or would heat become too much of an issue?
Then we get to powering it. Would a 2d-8aa adapter be the best bet, or 123s?
Thanks for any help

Thanks for the link, its a similar subject but i dont want a simple drop in unit, i want to get as much light as i can but still keep a reasonable run time. I have made a space needle clone, and wanted something brighter. The problem i can see with the quadlux and trilux is the smaller shalower reflectors they use, which i assume limits throw somewhat. I just want some advice on whether it is worth the hassle to make a multiple luxeon light, or am i better of sticking with the sn?

The throw will be limited, but for most use you don't need that much throw. I have a PTS with 3 Tbins in my 2D mag, running off 3 Alkaline C batteries. It's my favorite light.

IMO, a single LuxV/Hotlips/CC5W3 is easier to do, although I havent tried a tri sink mod yet. The single LED means you can alter between flood and spot, whereas the 3 LED unit offers a flood/spill blend. I'll try to remember to take a photo tonight

I just bought a hotlips sink, and a wx1t (i think) so i am going with the single led. What do you think of a 8aa-2d adapter and DB1000 to power it?

Ok, managed to take some shots tonight. The hosts used were:
L4 = Surefire L4
PM6-X3T) = Pelican M6 modded with LuxeonV (bin X3T) 750mA
PocketMateW = Cut down OA2C with LuxeonV (bin WX1T), Hotlips-C, Fatman driver

I hope you can see that the wide focus on the PocketMateW is very useful indeed!

Cool. WX1T should give you plenty of light when used with DB1000. Your 8AA unit will give you excellent runtime also.
