Rcr123's in a SureFire G2?

I'm thinking this isn't the smartest question but can you just pop rechargable cr123's in a G2 and use it or will the bulb blow? If you can't then what is the easiest way to convert a Surefire g2 to use rechargable batteries?

The lamp will blow. If you are going to use rechargeables, use the 3 volt versions and not the 3.6 volt ones.

Nope, the voltage will be way too high. R123s fresh off the charger is 4.2v. That makes 8.4v for 2 R123. Even if taking into consideration voltage drop with a load to 7.2v (estimated), it`s still gonna fry the fillament in your P60.

This configuration can power a P90 though but you are not gonna like the runtime.

Or you can add a A(N)19 adaptor and use 2 x 17500 and a P90 for more runtime.
Or you can hunt for those rechargeables R123 that will only charge to 3V. Haven had any experience with those before so I don`t know how effective it will be.
Just some amateuristic suggestion.

I think the threadstarter is talking about RCR123, not R123, they are 2 different types of rechargeble batteries. RCR123 will peak at 3.3V freshly recharged (what I got from my voltmeter) thought it states 3.0V on the batt.

Whatr sort of run time can you expect on 2 x R123's with a P90 please?

That would be cool if I could use rechargeables for my G2. I would always want to make sure and check them with the voltmeter before I use them though.

The simplest way to get 3.7v 123s to work in a G2 is to use a different bulb. A BOG 3w Luxeon works great with 7.2v in a G2. Some other flashlights have 7.2v xenon incandescents available, but haven't seen any yet for the G2.

HighLight,

You have a few rechargeable options:

If you want to work with the stock lamp (P60) that came with your G2, then SF's rechargeable option requires that you purchase an AN19 cell extender and their NiCad battery and charger.

If you want to use one li-ion battery such as the 168s (17670) then you will need to purchase a Pila 3.7 volt lamp (they are the same shape as the P60) and I think will get about 45 minutes runtime.

If you want to use 2x R123, then as falconz said, you will need to use a P90 lamp and you will get about 25 minutes runtime. If you want longer runtime, you will need to purchase an A19 cell extender (or and AN19 and a spacer) and could use 150s (17500) cells for about 50 minutes runtime.

If you want to go LED, G&P makes 1watt, 3watt modules that will run on just about any battery configuration you can fit in your G2.

Hopefully one of these options will suit your needs. :)

Can I use a single 18650 or 17650 in a G2 P60? I know it may not be as bright, but it should still be safe, right?

17670 is ok but I believe the 18650 is too wide (I am basing this on my 6P which I presume is the same width as the G2). Running the P60 on 1 cell (17670) is perfectly safe but I estimate you will only get about 60% of the brightness max.

That's great! Thanks! So can I use the 17650 in the U2 as well? Might as well buy just one battery to suit both my most frequently used lights. Which is better? The protected one or the unprotected one? What about for the E series bodies?

The older U2s could take an 18650, but the newer ones cannot.

I don't own a U2... just going from what I've read. I don't know how to check if the 18650 will work in your particular U2 without just trying it.
