I've seen many threads where people mention their dogs, but I don't see as many mentions to cats. I'm not looking to start a dog vs cat debate... I'm just wondering.

I have been looking for a cat to adopt for a little while now. I love their independent and curious nature... but I wanted a playful and loving cat too. I adopted him last night. Here are the pics I saw on petfinder

In the two paragraph description they said he's more like a dog than a cat... the most playful and loving little cat she was fostering. She was right on. Most cats hide for at least two or three days after bringing them home. Marbles took 10min to check out the house and then wouldn't leave my side the rest of the night. Marbles was the name he came with... I'm trying to find one that fits him better. I had cats when I was younger, but I don't ever remember one being this friendly.

I think he might be a flashaholic too because he seems to love looking at CPF while sitting on my lap:tinfoil:

I have a cat named Rocket that I adopted 13 and a half years years ago from my local animal shelter. I was looking for a cat, going from cage to cage, and when I came to her cage, she reached out with her paw and chose me! She was a year old at the time. You'd never guess she's over 14 years old by how active she is and how much she likes to play. Her kidneys are getting weak, but now she's on a renal diet to help them be more effective.
Hopefully, she'll have plenty more years to keep me company.

I think adopting Rocket has been the most rewarding thing I've ever done.
I'd post some pictures, but I don't have a photo sharing account. Anyway, she's a black and white "tuxedo" domestic shorthair.

We have a few from shelters.

Here's my buddy Nigel. Like yours, but no eyes. But I swear, he sees! I can slowly move my hand a few feet in front of him, and he watches my hand like he can see it. Freaky!

When we got him, he had hazy eyes. After weeks went by they enlarged. Shortly after this picture they had to be removed. Glaucoma. Honest, it wasn't my flashlight!

What's with blackcats? people used to hate them, now they're everywhere. I got one too.

edit: oh, and he's extremely interested in light, he is very friendly and personable (I am starting to think this is a trait of black cats), and he can jump like crazy!

Along with having two of my own, I live in the inner city, and also take in the occasional stray and help with the costs of getting their health checked and brought up to adoption status.

Friend of mine runs a no-kill shelter, and this is where they end up. Just the other night there was an adorable and friendly orange/white tabby hanging around my front porch, and after I gave him food and water he stayed there for two days. I think he wanted attention more than food, which is more sad. Anyways, I called my 'connections' and got him a spot at the shelter.

I have a 11 yr old orange long hair 19lb male that I got from the humane society 3yrs ago. All it said on the adoption certificate was 'doesn't like dogs'. What I didn't realize was not only does Garfield hate dogs, he'll go out of his way to 'throw down' with any dog he can. He's escaped twice, and immediatley waddles over next door and starts crap with the Neighbor's pitbull and white shephard. Both time the dogs backed down after getting a couple hard smacks in the muzzle (he's also declawed). Last time he snuck out I found him sitting on their back porch looking in their storm door while their dogs were barking like crazy. He also snores louder than I do and sits on my chest in the morning if there's no foodi n his bowl. Yeah, try sleeping with a bowling ball on your chest.

I have 2 female cats (same mother) that were feral, and were trapped/rescued when they were very young kittens. One is black, almost like the OP's cat. They are 5 or 6 now, but they still behave like kittens...

However, I can't say that they are interested in lights at all...

Far side of crazy.
Cats Vs Dogs thread, that'll be as explosive as a why is Brand X flashlight so expensive.:poke:

Mostly I am a dog guy at heart but animals and the people that care for them are great, no matter how you look at it! Come to think of it, I have known some mighty fine cats!

This is Joey - he likes to play 'fetch', but only with small paint brushes.
Funny to watch....

My daughter's cat also had glaucoma, had both eyes removed, still - she gets around just fine.

Nice kitties everyone! From my avatar, you can guess I like cats. Actually, I like all kinds of animals, but cats are my number one.

Here is Snickers in a box  He started showing up at my parents house out in the country in 2006. He had a fine cat personality in that he wasn't afraid when approached and he followed me when I took a walk in the woods. With 3 cats, my parents couldn't take another and asked me to. I had a cat and was on the fence about having another. The next weekend I visited my parents, I decided to take him home. He is still with me now.

The big cat on the left is Simon, my other cat. I got him in 1997 as my first pet since moving out on my own. He too had a wonderful personality. He was always at the door to great me when I got home and he loved to be near. I'd take him to my parents house every so often where he and their cats would play wrestle. Never a hiss or a fight, just pure play.

One September day last year I found him crying and gurgling breaths. I rushed him to the vet and after 3 days of vets and specialists, he died in my arms. He was found to have had a bad heart that threw a clot. This was the most traumatic, heart wrenching moment in my life. I miss him.

Sorry about the downer.

Nice thread. My username here on CPF 'neko' means 'cat'.

Our b/w cat passed away recently after 19 years with us, and I still cannot muster up the courage to adopt another, from fear of losing the relaxed relationship again.

I posted this in the Interesting Video Finds Part 2 thread already, but thought some of you may enjoy.
