So while out hiking attempting to get rid of 1/3 of myself, I heard a rattlesnake rattling away about 20 yards from me off in some boulders. This is not normal behavior for these critters so I worried it was in distress and needed help, and like any sane and normal individual, I went looking for him to see if I could assist him in any way (maybe was a her, but at this point, I didn't know). I got to where the noise was coming from to see in what way I could help this venomous critter and low and behold, I came across another early riser who was up trying to get some breakfast (or would it be supper since they stay up all night and sleep all day... similar to jobless teenagers?
After a brief standoff, and not particularly wanting to exposed my rear to this other critter while reaching around in the crevices of the rocks to find the distressed serpent, I continued on my way up the mountain.

More like usual Badger, very cruel predator. I like the color rendition, it looks like he was also surprised to see sunlight.

Hogo, as an old THS Badger I must say I enjoyed your trail photo.
Which leads me to asking you your thoughts on the SDR50 vs. the NLT 325 as "trail"/EDC lights. Been scouring the forums lately trying to decide on the emitter for my first HDS purchase and have narrowed it down to these two. I live on the west side of town close to the Tucson Mountains so the terrain and vegetation on my nightly walks with the XYL and the loyal hound resemble your area. We walk dirt roads in a sparse residential area, so long stretches of open road ahead, but often unnaturally dense vegetation on the roadside (mesquite, palo verde, creosote, cholla, prickly pear, etc.). Often encounter semi-urbanized coyotes and javelina. We probably average at least half a dozen rattlesnakes a year; I rarely see them a second time as I am very territorial myself.
Do you reckon that the SDR50 would be appreciably better at picking out the proverbial "snake in the grass" (rocks, rabbitbrush) on the ground? Also wondering if the HiCri is better at "penetrating" through dense brush than the XPG3. (For me nothing beats looking through heavy vegetation other than a tight incandescent, but an M4 is not particularly pocketable.) Sometimes a higher CRI is better and sometimes a higher contrast contrast connects the dots in our brains; so just wondering what your personal observations have been.
The various primary lights I use on my walks are all Neutral, range of 4k-5k is my preference. Really looking forward to trying the Rotary UI for an edc light. I ordered one of the 18350 battery tubes on the first day up, I think lack of that format was why I hadn't bought an HDS before. Looking to order one of the above for Christmas, then six months from now I will have an extra tube for ...

Personally for identifying critters that tend to blend in well high CRI is better. You won't notice 25 less lumens on max as all. You get better color rendition with a larger hot spot. No, it won't throw as far as an NLT but for hiking around, throw is not an issue. Not stepping in Arizona venomous cow pies is much more important.

Great choice. I have carried mine nonstop since I received it. I loved the 3 o'clock high, but the SDR50 is better because it is just as nice of tint in HiCRI with a little more brightness, a little wider beam and a little more throw.

I agree guys. The SDR50 is my new favourite emitter. Very nice beam, tint and color temp. It works wonderful in all conditions; indoors and outdoors, daylight, dusk and dawn and night time. I carry it all the time, of course paired with a specific flaslight suited for the purpose (high noon for daylight use, SS40 with diffuse reflector for night time, amber w diffuse reflector for the ageing man's night fumbling walks around the house, etc) but the SDR50 is actually a do it all jack of all trades solution that could make all these other flashlights redundant. Almost. Can't wait to see the Samsung 5600K! [emoji3]

Until we run out... not very helpful. I know.
It is hard to say. We have run out of special emitters sometimes very quickly and other times they have hung on like a bad cold. My best WAG would be about 4-6 months.

I see the HDS site says the SDR50 will take 6 weeks. Will it really take that long? What's up? Waiting on emitters?

It always takes a long time to get an HDS from Henry. I've been waiting longer than 6 weeks and i still haven't gotten it.

It depends on how long the order processing will take. Even the normal aluminium lights with limited LED took only around 2-4 weeks in the past. But at that time the HDS Team was not busy with limited material lights.
My guess is that currently the BeCu parts and the Stainless Steel Parts are assembled and during this assembly process no interruption is planned (interruptions may result in production errors...). But this is only a guess.
The real long things are the limited metal lights or now the limited 18mm tubes. Both is ~6 month.
