I don't drop lights too often but I've tossed my Fenix PD30 on concrete and other surfaces from tile to dirt (30yd toss) several times to show my friends how tough the new lights are and have had no problems with it.
Decide on AA or 123 first. Maybe both. Get a main torch (2x whatever) and a backup (1x whatever) in a mini platform. I use a Quark QP2A with a Quark mini 123 for backup. Not saying you should get a Quark it's just the lights I like best in the platform you described. Camping and survival.

Installed a new ceiling fan in the living room last night. Waited until it got dark so I could use my Haiku and QP2A Pro. Bounced them off the ceiling either side of the fan. I was really bored last night.
I vote the Quark Pro. I have the Pro, LD20 and SF outdoorsman. All good lights but the Pro is my favorite. Good spill/throw for around the house, backyard and camping , moon if you want it. The SOS/disco modes do nothing for me.
If 50 meters is not enough throw with a 2xAA and to still get decent spill try a 4xAA with a floody XML. 100 yd throw and still good flood. Lots of runtime on medium mode and they're just not that heavy, with primaries. I like to night hike myself and my worst fear would be poisonous snakes...
I'm currently EDCing the D25A clicky Ti, it's my favorite so far. Small, decent runs times, adequetly bright for my purpose of getting out of a dark place(eneloops or primaries), decent clip and good looking IMO. The mini 123 is my favorite small 123 light. Nice brightnes on primaries.
