    LEP VS LED

I just got my W30 and noticed the same kind of dirt. Did you manage to clean yours up a bit better? Also, if you can share any details on how to get the top lens element out I'd appreciate it (to me it looks like the top silver ring is the retaining disc, but I haven't examined it all that...

You Just Know Your A Flashaholic When......

.. you've just read 65 pages of this thread, only to find you can't disagree with any of them.

    Front filter size AceBeam W30?

Yea, given the threaded end, there must be something cool you can do to the front of that torch other than blind people two kilometres away. I had absolutely no need for one - just intrigued by the tech more than anything. Will hopefully get it in the mail today and will do some fiddling.

    Front filter size AceBeam W30?

Was that the review video where he held the perspex diffuser sheet in front of it (i.e.like the one from an office fluorescent light)

    Front filter size AceBeam W30?

Hi guys ... long hiatus from buying flashlights, but I recently went on a spending rampage buying a couple of new toys - one of which is an AceBeam W30. I know the light ships with a red screw on filter. Question is - has anyone toyed with other filters or diffusers that fit the threaded head?

    Thermal Management Demystified?

Any ideas on what would be an acceptable long term operating max temp? I remember reading that junction temps of 90 deg C were still Ok but that sounds very high.

    Thermal Management Demystified?

Don't have any 35+mm round bar copper handy. Its faily pricey stuff in that size from memory so I might have to keep that as a later option. The contact seats between pcb and the housing are already polished and coated with arctic silver paste. I was just so surprised given the torch...

    Thermal Management Demystified?

Thanks for the tips. The thing that has me confused is a comparison to an XML torch I've got. I took the light module out of that and it runs cooler at 2.8a than my drivers at 2.5. The light engines are machined from billet alloy and are 35mm diameter with another 40mm heat sink on the base...

    Thermal Management Demystified?

I've been toying around with some side-lit fibre optics and high powered LEDs (Cree XML-T6). I've resorted to making my own light engine enclosures as seen below. I'm really struggling with thermal management and was hoping for some advice on what I can do to get temps under control...

I've already been in contact with George after blowing up my first driver. He's being extremely helpful. Thanks for the advice guys.

Need advice for a CREE DRL project

Fair enough you're the moderator here so do what you feel is right and I'll accept that. It's always good to point out pitfalls for people starting works which could potential see them get into hot water with relevant legislation. I have no problem with that. However I just think that it's a...

    Help needed on Driver design

Potentially, yes. At the moment, the project is all on the bench and whilst there it's running of a 12V 4amp battery charger, but if I can get it reliable in prototype, I want to try it on a vehicle circuit, which would just be a straight connection to the battery (via relay & fuse).

Need advice for a CREE DRL project

That's the trouble in Australia, the states are all different. In Queensland the relevant regulation which covers vehicle modification (and DRL fitment) is Division 4 (Section 67) of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2010. What you are...

Need advice for a CREE DRL project

No worries. I'm not proposing to do anything illegal. Here in Australia it's perfectly legal to fit aftermarket DRL kits as long as they are switched. Most auto stores sell a vast variety of them here and they're a great idea because it's making the cars more visible. Unlike the US we don't yet...

    Help needed on Driver design

I'm hoping for some advice on which circuit / boost driver design I should opt for. I need to light four CREE XML t6 modules from a 12V car battery. An initial test rig I made with two T6 modules ran a HIPCC buck driver from Taskled. Unfortunately I managed somehow to blow that up, so I'm now...
