Home Depot is discontinuing the original Cree and TW series bulbs.
My local store had about a hundred TWs left @ $3.97 today. (I was actually in the store to return a defective TW I bought about a month back.) My kids like big, spherical paper lanterns in their bedrooms. A cheap E27 splitter and a pair of TWs in one of those lanterns is a pretty decent combo.- gswitter

Is it possible to design a 80 degree angle pure flood (no hot spot) w reflector?
I was only semi-joking. The lens of H501 may have played some role in narrowing the beam, but most of difference you see compared to the beam of the H502 is the LED. The XR-E in the H501 has a 90 degree viewing angle. The XP-G, XM-L and Luxeon T all have 120 degree. And the XR-E 'achieves' it's... -

How about narrowing the beam of your H502 with a piece of electrical tape and a hole punch? -
How To Mount Two Zebralight Headlamps On One Band
I think I'd opt for one of the floody headlamps mounted normally on the front, and an out-the-front light (probably an SC52/62) mounted in an extra silicone holder on the side. Maybe even one on each side if I needed the extra output, or wanted to balance the strap. -

I used to shop at the ComputerWare in Sunnyvale. Bought my PowerBook G3/500 there, IIRC. My first Mac was a Plus purchased in '89, when I started college.
