    HDS Systems EDC # 18

IMO yes, HDS is overall the best flashlight ever made, when you balance price, durability, features and performance. There are custom lights which are true works of art, and there are less expensive serviceable lights. Surefire makes lots of good lights and I have many of those. I like my...

    TITAN PLUS

I have the A, the Plus and the Sidekick. Of the those three I like the A the best, although the others have merits. I also include the Olight S1 Baton below since it's also very small and light, albeit larger diameter due to the CR123A. The MecArmy SGN3 has a similar form factor to the Sidekick...

Anyone knows what is 4sevens ATOM ?

I got mine today; In general I don't like it. The physical design is nice, aesthetic design good, size is smallest possible, rotational force OK, rotation degrees between off/low/high good, and the magnet is useful. However the beam is just too floody for general use. I fully realize the design...

    Importance of light reliability

HDS tests and individually calibrates every single light. However even this doesn't guarantee perfect reliability. You can always have "infant mortality" failures where the light fails early in its life. The OP mentioned going into an isolated, contained area by himself and was worried about...

    HDS Systems EDC # 16

I received my Rotary yesterday, model EDC-R1B-200. It was ordered Nov 1. It is a fantastic light. I've owned HDS U42, U60, Ra Clicky, Surefire U2, A2, etc. The Rotary is a perfect refinement of the HDS concept. The rotary action is smooth and brightness levels visually even per degree of...

If toughness and reliablity is concern; Surefire or HDS?

I've had numerous Surefire and HDS lights -- they are both great. The clicky HDS interface is programmable on most models. You can program it to be a simple on/off light, or a two-step high/low light. You can program it to be momentary only. It can be made as simple or complex as you want...

    Philips 10 watt AmbientLED MR-16

I've used three of the AmbientLED MR-16s to replace 50w halogens. To my eye and lux meter they aren't quite as bright, but close enough. Color temp is OK. One of the three has a faint but noticeable whine -- it's obviously the cooling fan. There's a little more glare than the halogens, I think...

    No skill sharpening system suggestions

Re: No skill sharpening sysytem suggestions I have the Wicked Edge and have sharpened many knives with it, including my Strider PT and small Sebenza 21. It's a good system, but is not idiot proof. Overall I think it's better than the Edge Pro, but I've never used that. Customer support is...

Tail clicky 2x AA with simple UI, runs well on alkaline?

I need to get a 2x AA light for my elderly father-in-law. It must have a simple UI -- no strobe, SOS, etc, and a simple tail click switch. One or at most two brightness levels. It should run *well* on 2x *alkaline* AAs -- NOT nominally on alkaline with NiMH preferred. Is there such a light...

    iPhone 4 LED flash flashlight

Using a combination of direct and reflection lux meter readings, and comparing the same readings to lights of known lumen output, I'd roughly estimate the iPhone 4 LED is about 5 to 10 lumens in normal continuous use. It's very roughly as bright as an Arc III AAA, but with a floodier beam. It...

Do you really use 0.2 lumen?

I used a lux meter to measure the known lumen output of a Ra Clicky at 0.07 lumens, and used that lux value as a "standard candle" when measuring other lights. That should have been clear from my previous post. If the Ra Clicky at 0.07 lumens produces x lux, and another light produces 17x lux...

Do you really use 0.2 lumen?

My Ra Clicky outputs 0.07 lumens on the lowest level. Assuming that's correct and using it as a reference with a lux meter, my Surefire T1A is a fraction of that -- the lux meter says 1/80th of 0.07 lumens, which would be 0.000875 lumens. With fully dark adapted eyes you can *still* navigate a...

Best Mod for an EDC Ultimate 60

Milkyspit modified my U60 with an SSC P4 emitter which essentially doubled the output, keeping roughly the same beam pattern. That was about 1 1/2 years ago; there are probably better emitters today. You're right the U60 is a great host for mods. Milkyspit does great work and is nice to deal with.

Questions about a new saint headset

Mine has become looser so adjusting power often adjusts the aim up/down. That's not right. The solution is NOT to hold it with your left hand -- I don't care what Surefire says. If it requires two hands to adjust the power, that's a defect -- either manufacturing or design. I haven't sent mine...
