HDS Flashlight Clip Options and Mods - Why no standard tailcap clip?

Yeah, I saw the Clicky Proto for sale. I wanted it but I don't have the $$$ at the moment. I've been thinning the herd. Novatac 85P body (the one it the picture) with a 120P light engine with a high CRI emitter from an HDS (sold that one too, the HDS). I figure that with this crowd, I'll get...

HDS Flashlight Clip Options and Mods - Why no standard tailcap clip?

These are my favorite clips: The Arc4 style clip. I had to drill and tap 3 of the lights in the picture, all are still water tight (but I cut it close on the twisty). Sorry, they are tail cap mounted, I like the bezel up so I can clip it to the brim of a baseball cap for expedient headlamp...

    What do you EDC?

First run (Arizona made) Novatac 85P, with an Arc4 style clip and the light engine from a 120P (also Arizona made), modded with a high CRI P4 emitter removed from a high CRI HDS/Ra. I have several HDS/Ra lights, but ever since they went with a longer form factor and different styling, I...

Starrett 359 Precision Universal Bevel Vernier Protractor with fine adjustment

I also have a Chinese copy of what I believe was originally a design of Soviet origin. The copies are commonly available on ebay. The one I have isn't anything to write nice things about other than it has been accurate enough for my work and I often prefer its different geometry. I've seen a...

Starrett 359 Precision Universal Bevel Vernier Protractor with fine adjustment

I've got one of those, except no fine adjustment and no wooden case. I use it once in a blue moon. Mine is in the orignal cardboard box. I will caution you, I have seen many of that model (no fine adjustment) with a broken blade lock. If yours is like the one without fine adjustment, be...

What is the best CR123 led flashlight for $40?

Re: Novatac plastic window. I've had two HDS glass windows break due to drops (old HDS, not the current production). I've never had a problem with the Novatac window and I prefer an unbreakable window to one that breaks.

    HDS Systems EDC #14

On the older clickies, the third wire was a simple signal wire. On the rotaries, this third wire I believe is a communications bus. The rotaries have a chip in the tailcap. I haven't seen the new clickies in the flesh, but I don't think Henry would add complexity where it isn't needed.

    HDS Systems EDC #14

Yeah, that is how I feel. None of my other lights (4 purchased new) from HDS had this much lube. Somehow I don't think Henry works alone, assembling every light. I wouldn't be surprised if he does participate in assembly, but I would think that he has some help with the assembly of hundreds...

I will say this. I still have my rotary that I received from day one. It does have the reset bug. Not an issue. What prompted me to disassemble the cap assembly was, in addition to my curiosity, the fact that it too, quit responding to clicks. This first became apparent right after a small...

    HDS Systems EDC #14

I'm not about to suggest to Henry how to run his business. He has all but made me give up on making my own lights. The machining side and mechanical design I can handle, the electronics, nope. The only complaint, his delivery dates slip. The price of being on the cutting edge (in this...

Careful there, some machinists have to interact with engineers who think they are infallible gods. It is a two way street. If it is easy, buy your own machine tools and run them. :D You should see some of the "drawings" I've had to work with over the years. Not intended as a taunt, just...

You're right. That is one reason to program C and B to the rotary setting. If that is a problem. Wire-doc, did you get the U60 repaired under warrantee? I say repaired, it might just get replaced.

High CRI LED vs. Good Incan?

You guys sound like audiophiles with your "depth" and other intangibles. If it can't be measured, and you didn't do a double blind test, it doesn't register in my book. As far as I know, nobody has made an flashlight with an LED emitter with a 100 CRI. Doesn't yet exist, LEDs with a CRI at...

    HDS Systems EDC #14

Well, I got the rotary tailcap back on with no problems. The o-rings are a little tricky, you want to make sure they are centered in the cap and some lube in in place. The retaining wire slid right back in, a little resistance towards the end, but you can rotate the cap in a manner that helps...
