Flashlights are like the holly grail

Not a “normal AA battery“ but my 14505 batteries work in my TS10; albeit with diminished output.

What is your current favorite practical light?

I love my NE KR4, but it has me appreciating my NC D11.2 more. Two things about the D11 make it my favorite practical light; ramping output and pocketable size.

How to carry your flashlight and battery outdoors?

Like many here I subscribe to the, “two is one and one is none”, philosophy. For my EDC, my battery carrier is a second 18650 powered flashlight. No fumbling around making a battery change or waiting for a battery to charge. This also means not having to carry charging equipment. For long trips...

    Flashlight Hopes/Wishes for 2021.

I’ll quote myself from BLF, “I’d love to see a: single emitter, triple secondary, 14500 powered, rear switch, tail standing, Andúril flashlight, with a pocket clip – from Hank. I’d be in for a half- dozen of them.”

how many lumens do you reasly need

That very much depends on what I’m doing at the time; mind you all with a floody-punch. Close up inspection at work - 10 or so. Detailed inspection - 100 or more. Walking from my car at night - 200 to 300. Lighting a hallway during a power outage - 500 to 600. Safely seeing the delivery person...

    Tail Clicky 18650

I had two HDS lights and was sorely disappointed with both experiences. So-much-so, I gave my second one away - with no regret. In my limited experience, for the same hourglass shape, you can get soo much more (colors, emitters, materials, output, UI) as-well-as on par fit and finish; with a...

    What's your favorite /best flashlight of 2020?

For me it’s the Emisar Noctigon KR4. I even went back for seconds via the fancier versions. Working nights makes for a great excuse to use new my EDC light daily. The KR4 is versatile enough for anything from closeup inspection to scoping out the neighborhood on my way home, and everything in...

Have I found the near perfect flashlight for myself?

I’d like to share with you a summary of the decade long journey it took for me to find my almost perfect flashlight. It all started back in 2009 when NiteCore was better known as Sysmax; selling their NiteCore brand of flashlights. I was enamored with the features of the D10 which made it...

    Do you lose your lights?

Wow, I’ve had it easy. Only once was a light of mine “traded” at work without my permission; no personal thrashings or situation where those caking care of me took advantage of me.

    im a backwards tint snob

Yea, I’m liking my 6500K K4 and hate the sickly yellow or rosy of Nichia LEDs. I find 5500 to 6500K best for inspection. I need to see detail not correct color tint.

    EDC/Tactical Carry: Preferred Cycle Mode?

I EDC a flashlight for personal and work use. I use low to high for both personal and inspection purposes.

XPL HI 6000K VS 219C?, Concern of low CRI

Us humans seem to chase the next thing rather than appreciating what we have. You may find the grass is not always greener. If it’s been, ”After all this time ... ”, and “It has a very good beam and tint however”. A change now may not be what you imagine

    Looking for a 'tripwire' flashlight

One way to go would be to make your own with an ATTiny85 and a PIR sensor. Simpler and easily set up with a tripwire would be a close pin deadman’s switch. Though I don’t recommend the string as it is a trip hazard.
