    What did you use your flashlight for today?

    Used my Maglite XL100 to inspect the interior of a 3D Maglite while installing a Malkoff upgrade. Works in my 6D Maglite also, but with the Terralux 140 lumen upgrade in there, I use the big boy as a dedicated thrower.

    Cheap reliable light to keep at the office?

    I'd get a Mini Maglite LED. It still does the candle-mode to light up the entire room and because it spins to turn on, it disconnects from the batteries while off and has zero parasitic drain. Check out any big box store. Makes sure it says LED. Runs on easy to find 2 AA's.

    3xAAA and 2xAAA lights. What's good?

    xl200 is the brightest at 173 lumens. While the 100 and 200 have the same options (infinite brightness, nite lite, strobe, sos) the 100 has the same output as the 50 at 105 lumens. And the 50 is high/low/strobe. I'd recommend the 50 for simplicity or the 200 for shear output.

    Maglite XL200. 178 lumens on 3AAAs. Infinite light settings (hold rear click and twist to dim/brighten) and a nite-lite motion activated mode (and strobe and SOS). $37 on Amazon. Tough to beat! The setting you set is the one that it starts on.
