Busch und Muller IQ Cyo Premium

Yesterday I stayed up longer and made those beamshots with my Bush & Mueller IQ Cyo RT with vaious LEDs (I had to resolder the board between shots) and a comparisson with Cyo Premium. Exposure was manual 1/1.3s f/2.8 ISO800 with daylight white ballance. The first 2 shots are Cyo RT with...

    Complete dynamo LED circuit

Thank you Steve, I think this LM334 + a PNP BJT should be much better than simple current limiting resistor for standlight - if I understand it correctly, it should keep the current constant for as long as is possible instead of gradually dimming.

    Complete dynamo LED circuit

Khrystyan don't be fooled by maximum mcd value of leds. Check som cd to lm online converter - because cd is dependent on the angle. In a rear light you probably want wider angle - sth. like 60 deg or so.

Edocaster but at what speed does the dynamo reach 12V ? it doesn't make sense to me.

Busch und Muller IQ Cyo Premium

I just noticed that another big improvement is that the LED board in Cyo Premium is aluminum - not like in the original Cyo with XR-E where the board was standard fiber PCB with vias to conduct heat to the other side and to the heat sink on top of the light. This board should conduct heat much...

Thanks steve. I know i need the timing components for the 555 but i omitted them for the sake of readability. I was planning to use the cmos version for less voltage drop - i just used whatever 555 i could find in the eagle library :-)

In the meantime I have sketched whaI think could be my rear light. It should be switchable from constant light to blinky when I feel like it (in city I prefer blinky to attract attention, however on country roads steady light is supposed to be better for estimating distance). Standlight in...

Another 'designing dynamo lights' thread: front 1 LED + rear 2 LED in parallel

Steve: Thank you for even thinking about this :) I'm a software engineer with one semester of electrical circuits, but this is over my head. I' barely able to wire a 555 timer or similar IC when I have the specsheet, but designing from scratch and selecting the right components I feel like...

please cool down both of you. this is a friendly place. @swhs I really appreciate your reviews. It has helped me a lot so far.

First successful mod: XC-997 emitter replaced

I'm not sure about the distances - but it's about 200m from my home so will check it and get back to you. You could probably make the beam even wider by using this kind of optic http://www.action-led-lights.com/collections/lenses-optics-reflectors/products/wide-angle-lens The XPG is smaller...

Another 'designing dynamo lights' thread: front 1 LED + rear 2 LED in parallel

@Edocaster: thank you for the tip on that current regulator. It sounds like a good idea for rear light. I could use 2x or 4x20mA depending on the LED used. Unfortunately I can't buy it locally - would need to order from abroad = expensive. Instead of load matching, I was considering just using...

Thank you for pointing me to the LED. Here is an Osram page which lists the family of LEDs http://www.osram-os.com/osram_os/en/products/product-catalog/led-light-emitting-diodes/oslon/oslon-black-flat/index.jsp so it could be either LUW HWQP or H9QP. I haven't noticed that he also sells lights...

@Steve I was really hoping that you could help. I've read so many useful posts from you. Pity you haven't tried this. I have some buck converter modules from the bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/301218533352. I wonder if I could try it in a configuration: dynamo - rectifier bridge with smoothing cap...

Another 'designing dynamo lights' thread: front 1 LED + rear 2 LED in parallel

Hi all, I've read many threads about dynamo light circuits design, I already have an idea about the various possibilities, and here I'd like to put it all together and ask some questions that are still unclear to me. I would like to design both front and rear lights. They should be connected...

Busch und Muller IQ Cyo Premium

Not listening to warnings about the new Cyo Premium (http://swhs.home.xs4all.nl/fiets/tests/verlichting/index_en.html), I ordered the light for some € 55 from Germany and I'm not exactly overwhelmed by the shape of the beam. Maybe I just need to try riding with it and get used to it, but now in...
