Top Ten single AA Flashlights of 2015

Favorite 1XAA: Malkoff MDC AA ~$99 You might also consider the Sunwayman V11R in neutral tint. Can be used as 1XAA with an extension (included in some packages).

    First LED 18650 EDC flashlight

I'm not sure that you'll find something that checks all of your boxes, but the Nitecore SRT7 and the Zebralight SC600 MKII L2 fulfill different parts of your requirements. The Zebralight is significantly smaller, but uses a side switch for UI, whereas the Nitecore has a tail clicky for on/off...

What did you use your flashlight for today?

Used my Fenix E05SS with my 3-year old son to search for "hidden" objects on some of the darker pages of an "I Spy" book. If you're familiar with these books, you'll remember that some of the photographs are intentionally under-exposed and some of the objects are hidden in the darker corners. A...

Some notes on reliability from a flashlight user

You'll notice that I didn't volunteer to start or manage the "database"! An eager soul might do a brand/model search for collective failures in the CPF archives to get a preliminary idea, but that will be complicated by the number of people who own a particular brand/model. It runs...

Some notes on reliability from a flashlight user

Thanks for the data point. I have all of the brands you mentioned (except for FourSevens), but I haven't experienced a failure . . . yet. I did receive a defective AA light from a small company, but they are working on a replacement. A living catalog of flashlight models and their failures...

LED AA Flashlight -- Best options for $40-$70 ?

The Fenix LD 12 (1xAA) and Fenix LD22 (2xAA) are nice lights. But I've come not to like the UI with the side mode switch, because it can be tricky to find the switch in the dark. Also, no tail standing. Even so, I continue to use both lights. My favorite 1xAA under $70 is the Sunwayman V11R. It...

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

I've never seen PWM on the M361N, and I have 4 copies. I have heard the high-pitch whine, but only when the light is held close to my ear.

The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

I have exactly this setup, and it's very nice if you like to use low levels around the house. With the tail cap on low, you'll have your choice of three low levels from the drop-in. The differences between the 3 lows are not dramatic, but I still find them useful. And it's certainly nice to have...

what's the best light out there today for 200 and under?

+1 on the 18650 Hound Dog. But you can get it for less than 189.99 (with the charger and battery) at Malkoff Devices website. Not sure where you found the 189.99 price. I just received my (neutral version) HD 18650 a couple of weeks ago, and it's immediately become my favorite. You'll want a...

Incoming - What do you have coming in the mail??

NOS Surefire Z2LED. Have one already. One of my favorites (with Sportac Nichia drop-in or M361N).

    The 2015 Flashaholic's "Must-Have" List -- Cast Your Vote!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the lists from previous years, so I feel obliged to contribute my own list of favorites as a new CPF member. My thanks to TGwnn for his work on these lists. #1# Surefire : 6P : Malkoff M361N drop-in/Clicky tail #2# Surefire : Z2 : Eagletac Nichia 219 triple 2-mode...

What was the last LED light you purchased and why?

I love the Zebralight SC series: I have the 52w, 62d, and the 600w II. Contrary to other reports, I actually prefer the 600w II to the 62d. It's a little bigger (and brighter), but I prefer the body design and feel. Most recent purchase: Maratac tactical AA (in the mail). It looks like a mini...

    Adjustable Brightness Right Angle Flashlight?

I completely agree. It's odd that Fenix (or other manufacturer) hasn't produced a right-angle light with those specs. It could also use a lower low.

    Adjustable Brightness Right Angle Flashlight?

Sorry, I don't know of one that fits that description. I can recommend the Fenix MC11. Right-angle head with adjustable angles. 1AA. Three brightness levels: 3, 50, 105 lumens. Burst 155 lumens.
