I used a Thrunite TN42 CW to light up a treeline that was about 700 meters away. It got out there but there was a lot of backscattered light from moisture in the air, so it was difficult to make out the details.
Obviously I need a bigger thrower.
I bought two AW 18650 2900 mAh in 2011. I used them in my lights until about a year ago, at which point I charged them fully and put them away.
A few days ago I bought a SkyRC MC3000 charger, so I decided to do a full discharge to check the remaining capacity. I discharged them at 1A.

I got myself a Thrunite TN42 CW for my upcoming birthday, because I love impractical, pencil beam throwers. Today I went to an e-cig store and bought four Sony VTC6 3000 mAh 18650s which are now charged and ready to feed this monster! It should get here tomorrow.
I still EDC this in my work bag. Excellent power and regulation and none of the "OMG über-turbo-deathray 10000 lumens for the first two picoseconds of runtime and then timed stepdown to 54 lumens" of more recent lights.
My AW 2900 mAh 18650s are getting a little long in the teeth, so I'm looking to replace them. It's been a while since I've bought new batteries, so I have some questions that I hope you can help me with.
1. I have always been told that the IMR chemistry wont start a fire if the cell fails...
I had a 4D and a 6D Maglite lying around, and I am too cheap to get Malkoff dropins for them. I saw the liteXpress LXB404-4 LED upgrade for 10 euros (down from about 30 euros) on the german Amazon, so I got two of them.
The tint is pretty consistent between the two modules, even though one is...
Just got an Armytek Wizard Pro V2 warm white. I chose this one because it's the only warm white Wizard Pro that will run on CR123s and RCR123s. I prefer to power it with 18650s but I stock CR123s for extended blackouts (which never happen where I live, but still).
The output dwarfs that of my...
Re: *NEW* Olight M3XS-UT Javelot
I took my M3XS-UT out for a drive yesterday. I would say that the upper extreme limit of the real world effective range is about 750 meters. I lit up a grey building at that distance and the result was discernible to the naked eye, but just barely. I shone the...
Re: *NEW* Olight M3XS-UT Javelot
I had to pay 180 GBP for mine. That's 282 USD for the light and two EagleTac 3400 mAh cells. One of the joys of living in the European Union is that you get to pay through your nose for everything.
I lit up a building that's 400 meters away with no problems at...
Olight M3XS-UT Javelot because the best throwers in my collection up until now have been a Fenix TK41 and a LiteExpress LXSP 102 and mo' power is mo' betta.
Re: *NEW* Olight M3XS-UT Javelot
Received mine today. The o-ring between the bezel ring and the lens had slipped out of place and part of it formed a curve in front of the lens. I unscrewed the bezel slightly and pushed the o-ring back in. There were specks of dust on the back(!) of the lens...
Wasn't really today, but I haven't had the time to post this gem:
On Jan 1st at around 2PM I heard someone walk up my front stair (we live in a 1st floor apartment, and the stairs only lead to our apartment). I had already gone to bed, but I grabbed my TK41 and went to investigate. A couple of...
Re: Favorite AND Ideal UI and Why?
I voted for momentary/twisty but I really prefer the SF LX2 interface with two-stage momentary/twisty.
So you can have my LX2 when you take from my cold dead hands. Or when you hand me an EB2 instead 'cause I really want one of those.
NASA uses something similar on deep space probes: Peltier elements around a rod of plutonium. One side of the Peltier elements is exposed to the warmth (due to spontaneous fission) of the plutonium rod, the other side is exposed to the cold of deep space.
I propose to upgrade her light by...
