    White lasers

White lasers are not only possible, they've been around and available for purchase for quite some time (that is, if you have some serious cash!), They are not as yet handheld items, but I don't see why the technology could not be used so. They are a type of fiber laser known by the name...

Awesome new 150mw Optotronics burning machine!

Sorry for the delay. Mine also tested at 155mW according to the data slip that came with the laser. R.

    250mw handheld laser

"250mW maximum" is what I read, with no minimum given. You're probably better off with an Optotronics RPL. 2c, R.

why are 250Mw < so cheap! yet some are so expensive?

I have one of Jack's 150mW green "pen-style" lasers and I really like it. Good beam characteristics too. At just under $200 I think it's one of the better deals out there for what you get. http://www.optotronics.com/proddetail.php?prod=Opto150 R.

    Green laser requirements

Yes. Don't do that. The reason being the output aperture is very close to the output lens, and burning things so close to it almost ensures that you will severely contaminate the lens surface with condensate/debris from the burning material and drastically reduce the beam quality of your laser...

Awesome new 150mw Optotronics burning machine!

    ^ Yep, that's the beast. ^ R.

Awesome new 150mw Optotronics burning machine!

I also have this one and can vouch for it. The beam quality is also good. It runs on two AAA cells. I'm using NiMHs in mine. R.

Laser recommendations for High School Classroom

Imho, for classroom optical demonstrations 5mW is plenty of power for educational purposes and lasers in this power range are easy to replace. R.

Nichia Begins Shipments Green Laser Diode

I agree, this is very good news. Who knows, in the next few years a real laser television projector may become a reality. Is this diode a commercial product now or are they still in the (expensive) "engineering sample" stage? And there is no wavelength specified, I hope/wonder if they are a...

    445nm diodes

Are there any descriptions/how-to articles, etc., on salvaging/testing the diodes from those projectors - that is, without destroying them in the process? And are the diodes driven by separate circuit elements that might be salvaged as well? Is there an online voltage/current in vs. output chart...

    Green Survival laser

If it was an actual emergency and I had a laser with me that could serve as a sigaling device, you bet I'd use it! If I planned on carrying a laser for such an improbable event, I think I'd prefer to carry both green and red lasers. Red is supposed to be the color for emergency signaling...

THe best deadly force against poison ivy?

+10^ I'll second that. A friend of mine who worked fighting fires in the Sierras was notably "immune" to poison oak and was the only guy on his fire crew that could/would wade into burning thickets of the stuff to put it out... ...UNTIL... the one day his body decided it was sensitized enough...

    Deadly Weapons

I know that :tired: yes - the military has such; they are "unobtainium" to J6P, and unlikely to turn up "on the street". I believe the OP was referring to lasers that are currently available to the public. R.

    Viasho GB at Optotronics

Well... I took the plunge and ordered a 500mW. :faint::broke: I'm going to have Jack add power measurement test certs (+$30) to my order (not available in the 'configuration' section for these on the site) just to get an idea of what the beast will really do; I have a LPM, but I don't have an...

    Optic ruined?

If the lens is glass, you may try stepping up to acetone or MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) which could melt/affect a plastic lens depending on the material!. If you were burning plastic close enough to the optics for the resulting smoke/vapor to reach them, and the optics are also plastic, it is...
