Green laser requirements

...and placed some thin black plastic directly over the aperture. (point blank range)

Any thoughts?

Yes. Don't do that. The reason being the output aperture is very close to the output lens, and burning things so close to it almost ensures that you will severely contaminate the lens surface with condensate/debris from the burning material and drastically reduce the beam quality of your laser if not the output.

FWIW a 30mW pointer will burn (albeit slowly) through electrical tape and colored Solo cups at a few inches.

Thank you Ragnarok. I didn't even think of that.
OK...I'm gonna assume for the time being that this one is under 15mw since it won't burn at those distances.

I said "burn" in my post when it really should have been melt. Since there was no smoke OR even an odor.

My 5mW greenie from ebay sell Kun Yan. The blue one is 5mW 405nM same seller. the Green one is VERY visible in the night sky.
