Any PY21W bulbs that don't flake?

With the Osram Diadem PY21W no longer available are there any PY21W bulbs on the market that don't loose their coating? I just want my turn signals to stay orange :(

    Halogen H18 and H19

The giveaway is that he describes one bulb as being "whiter" than another, but as -Virgil- will tell you, all clear glass halogen bulbs produce white light.

I assume that the bulb shield on the low beam side blocks most light from reaching the ribbed section, then. My 796s arrived, ordered from Amazon. Made in Korea, look to be of good quality. Got the light meter out to see how they compared. Meter was roughly on the center axis of the lamp...

    Volvo 850 lighting

So it was mentioned earlier in this thread that the reflectors in the later S/V70 lights degrade badly. I was at the junkyard today and came across a S70 with a broken headlight lens, and boy is that true! Look at that thing, every square millimeter of it is completely gone. Also, what's the...

That'll help me resist the temptation to find a set, then. I ordered some 796s for the reverse lights, I'll get the lightmeter back out when they show up.

Are the factory fogs for these cars decent? Looking at pictures they look like projectors, and according to the manual they use an H3 bulb. I know fog lights are rarely useful (especially here, where we don't get fog), but the car is prewired and it's really tempting to add them. Just want to...

Can someone please explain why these blue LED headlights are legal?

LEDs are much further along in taking over the fixed lighting world than they are taking over the automotive world.

    '03 Buick Century headlights

Image should be fixed now. Bummer about the louvers, I have a pair of Volsa 9012 +30 sitting around. I'll send him Stern's way then. BTW, thanks for all the time you spend answering questions here. I think this is about the only place on the internet where this kind of real advice about...

    '03 Buick Century headlights

I've got a buddy that has a recently acquired '03 Century, and I'm trying to give him some advice on how to best improve his headlights. It's a pretty typical mid '00s GM setup, separate low/highs with 9006/9005. I've already recommended the 9011 swap for the highbeams, but I want check to see...

Good price on GE Night Hawk LED sealed beam replacements

I had the same thought, that that is a suspiciously good price for those lamps. Hopefully it's not a poor quality unit in a slightly different box for WalMart, it's already hard enough for most people to sort the wheat from the chaff in the automotive lighting world.

OK, I think I fixed it. And all 3 of those bulbs are European made Osrams, so buying quality lamps does not mean that can't happen.

So, my bulbs arrived, the sun went down, so I decided to get the light meter out and get some relative numbers between a P21W, 2396, and 3497. First, a reminder why just because a bulb lights up doesn't mean you shouldn't replace it: And now, my Very Scientific (TM) test setup: The light...

Good price on GE Night Hawk LED sealed beam replacements

Walmart appears to have an excellent price on the Night Hawk LED sealed beams right now, the 5x7 units are only $75! (link) Unless something has changed, these are just a reboxed TruckLite unit with some GE branding on it. It seems like this is about half the price this lamp goes for from...
