    supercontinuum white light laser

Re: Do white lasers exist? "Semiconductor lasers do something interesting - below lasing threshold, they act just like a regular non-coherent LED. Bring the current up to lasing threshold, and they start to become monochromatic but with lots of sidebands at adjacent frequencies. Increase the...

    Portable Electric Generators-suggestions?

"Paulr I agree it would make a lot more since to go with a higher voltage inveter. BUT 12, 24 and 48 volt inverters are very common and they could use an existing inverter rather then make their own. The other reason that makes me think it is a lower voltage is the 3000w one has a "power boost"...

who do you think is pretty

The girl that I think is the prettiest is an expert in semiconductors. Hmmm... She knows about the inner workings of an electronic component in your PC, as well as all the solid-state components found in PCs, LED flashlights, calculators, digital cameras, HDTVs, and many other electronic...

    stupid green laser pointer question

"Ahem. That VGA monitor that you're staring at right now? It's analog." Sorry, it's not a VGA monitor, it's DVI. And I said TVs, not monitors. But let's get back on topic.

    what are you listening to

I usually listen to Britney Spears, but at the moment, the sound of race cars going at 180MPH around the track (watching NASCAR on a 15" LED array and 5.1 surround sound).

    stupid green laser pointer question

The answer is to overclock it. The problem is that it's already overclocked, so there may be only a little room left before it burns out. I suggest keeping the laser cool with a heatsink/fan/peltier assembly if you want to overclock it anyways.

First MSIE Security Alert of the new year ...

"it's funny but Acrobat is THE one and only program that no matter what version of Windows I'm using and no matter what version of Acrobat I'm using, I end up with problems. Yes, it takes FOREVER to load... even with DSL... and then it locks up my machine. I'll admit that with XP and Acrobat...

    1.5 volt C cell Lithium?

Problem is, Lithium is 3v due to chemistry reasons.

What is a good way to charge NiMh packs?

Try the MAX712: http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm?qv_pk=1666&ln= It comes in either standard DIP (for breadboards) or SO (for small size). Up to 4C charge rate! 1-16 cells! Best of all, FREE samples!

50W UV Flashlight runs on 2AA cells!!!!

Hmmm... It might be possible to get more than 50 watts peak if you use a Xenon flashbulb with a quartz envelope (glass would block UV). Problem is, it's only peak power; the average power will be quite low.

Fighting with efficiency, Boost Regulator, Eureka!

"Finally ended up on a dual MOSFET setup, one MOSFET replaces the schottky diode, to drop the losses." Sounds a lot like the CPU voltage regulators. However, they still have a schottky diode in parallel with the low side MOSFET (probably to keep switching spikes from damaging the MOSFETs).

    Regulating a 12V power supply ??

Have you tried the MAX797? http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm?qv_pk=1190&ln= It says that the max output is 6v, but if you read the datasheet, you will find out how to raise the Vout above 6v. You can also try the MXL1074 if you want a simpler circuit (but less current)...
