    Who gave up "analyzing" NiMH?

Never started analysing them. Why bother? Empty = grab new one, toss empty one in the charger. If they don't run down in a few days/weeks it's good enough. Numbers does not matter, when you don't even notice the difference between a good and a slightly less good one.

Looking for USB charger for eneloops

I have the original Eneloop USB charger, but discontinued. The Panasonic BQ-CC14 looks identical, but don't know if actually is. Not very good unless the solar panel output is consisitant and strong enough. I tried to tie it in the Goal Zero Solar panel and Guide 10 powerpack, but there is a...

    Mechanic light

Biting a light you just hold with your dirty hands/gloves does not sound healthy. In a pure pratical sense of things: - Headlight or light with magnetic base are perfect for handfree work. - Rubber exterieur prevents you from damaging car paint. - Big and bright enough see easily find it back...

Which is better? The Petzl or the Princeton Tec headlamps?

Don't know why you would want that many lumens on your head. Just look down for a second and you just blinded yourself from the reflective light, blind your self by just breathing in the cold, blind your self inside a tent/building/room, get smacked in the face when you look at somebody...

    Flashlight for Fire Fighters

    Headlamp in traffic (bicycling)

You could have placed blinding people in the list of cons, instead of seperate. Anyways, headlights are fine when there is no traffic (MTB trails). Many handle bar mounted lights, not made for this purpose will also blind other road users. I think the main question, would be what purpose do...

The chance of EDC failure requiring backup lights

Don't over think things. Do you also carry multiple housekeys? I just got one light and my phone's LED is the backup (i sometimes forget to pop in a fresh battery). In the outdoors usually a backup headlight.

Which is better? The Petzl or the Princeton Tec headlamps?

Climbers don't plan to change batteries during climbs. We do that in base camp (which can be pretty cold in an alpine situation) and with bare hands or thin gloves, you get way better grip for doing things like battery changes. Not always a good idea, lots of people get cold injuries from...

Which is better? The Petzl or the Princeton Tec headlamps?

News for you. Armytec, Fenix, Zebra are niche market brands. The Petzl, BD and Princeton tec are the major brands. Aluminium is a terrible material in the cold. It’s too conductive in really freezing conditions to touch bare handed. Try to replace the batteries in the proper cold. Yes plastic...

Which is better? The Petzl or the Princeton Tec headlamps?

Regular users are not flashoholics and have other priorities. Weight, runtime, helmet compatibility and running on the same 'silly energy source' batteries as other gear like GPS and avalanch beacons. Rarely do I need a lot of lumens. Why would anybody need 150+ lumens? Petzl, PT, black diamond...

    Rechargeable wall mounted flashlight

First, what do your parents want? And for what purpose? Is it just for around the house? If your parents are older I would say a simple emergency light / flashlight would be ideal. No need for many lumens or runtime. A Eton ARCBB200W DBL Blackout Buddy, Olympia LED NL300 or Alecto LED ATL-120W...

    Best emergency "mass" giveaway lights?

Normal users will not care about throw, artifacts in the beam or any flash-o-holic requirements. Certainly not in such a situation. And you do want a headlight. Where do you put a regular light when you want to cook, take a dump, etc.? If you spend $10 on a headlight, it's a more expensive...

    Best emergency "mass" giveaway lights?

First thing: Headlight. Second: regardless of amount of lights, working in the dark is far less efficient and more dangerous. NGO staff also need to rest. You can't expect a person to do there job well if they don't rest and get a good nigh sleep. Since you generally don't have enough rescuers...
