Old E1 replacement.
I would venture to say this is a somewhat late upgrade or fresh new updated equivalent to the old Fenix E1 from 2006. You know the one with the blueish rigel LED. Perhaps even the same circuit. The runtimes looks very similar. As I remember it had 5 hours on a lithium primary.
Try another battery and see if the noise is still there. If it is an alkaline and you are running it on max it is not impossible that gas is building up due to the high current.
No. I do not think the wind would be adequate. A small surface (the front) without any cooling fins to get the best of the winds cooling effect would probably not suffice. Especially as the mini AA is not even specified for 14500 use. At extremely high speed and chilly outer temperatures, perhaps.
I would say that it is similar to the so called RV7-driver in 14 mm size. Components seems the same, just a more compressed layout. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=166132
This could very well be what I am looking for. The perfect gift light. AA, simple construction, single mode. And a familiar rather reliable brand name. With a reasonable runtime on alkalines and a fair price it could be the one.
There is some info in this thread: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=198286
You can go ahead and just switch the emitter. You will notice a big difference whatever emitter you use as the G2 has a rather obsolete p2 cree emitter installed. The original driver is not the best...
As a matter of act I have the Terralux ministar 5 one watt LED replacement for the minimag. I changed it to an SSC and it got quite a bit brighter. I also got one to my brother. It was not entirely brother proof :) He managed to twist it down to hard upon turning the flashlight on. This resulted...
Here is a link to the XRT(XtraRunTime?) version of the Buckle Light. http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=5628
They state 100 minutes on an AAA. With an AA the runtime should be quite a bit longer. And $17.99. That kind of proves that it is possible to make a cheap long...
Hah, 2 amps. No alkalines in the tank007 then :) I wish KD would sell their XRT drivers separately, or make an AA version of the so called Buckle Light.
Thanks for your suggestions. I have a bunch of those Romisen G2s, but I find them not to good for alkalines. They have a rather high current draw. They are excellent modding hosts, though. Good machining. Too bad that a good single AA driver for Alkalines is hard to find.
I have tried the...
Why does this not exist? A single-mode alkaline friendly AA light. With todays efficient emitters it could be decently bright with an output of max 2-300 milliamps. It would not be too hard on alkaline batteries. Well regulated it could probably achieve 3 hours runtime or more. This would make...
I had a friend do correct measurements on an old luxeon compatible hotlips-C heatsink that I sanded down to fit the ssc. It seems that 2,2 mm height was a good match for the seoul ssc. That gives an adjustment of 0,8 mm.
A suggestion for the seoul ssc heatsinks is to make them a little shorter/lower, one mm or so. They need quite some unscrewing to get properly focused with the standard mag reflector/kai OP reflector which makes the mag head wobbly. I use an O-ring under the reflector to raise it a bit.
