Sold/Expired FS: Titanium Aleph 3 (A3) Bezel Rings

Short version requested for me. I've already got a small deformity in the edge of my beloved A3. Hopefully I can work it out enough to thread this on to protect from future injuries!

Romisen RC-T5 4-Cree - notes on Shark driver upgrade

I still haven't turned this thing into a bike light, still looking for the time to do it - other things have been taking priority. Mounting will be somewhat problematic. I won't be using the full battery tube, since it will be wired to a water bottle battery, so that decreases the weight a bit...

Will LED Christmas lights be good this year?

Your lights probably had a simple half-wave rectifier, thus a pronounced 60Hz visible 'buzz'. Better strands, and they are out there, have a full wave rectifier, so the 'buzz' is 120 Hz and also without the half cycle off period. It makes a big difference to my eyes.

GE 7 watt Par20 'bulb' with 3 "warm" high power LEDs

Anyone know anything about this GE branded bulb? Stumbled across it at WalMart for $35. It was easy to pass over all the floodlights with masses of 5mm LEDs in the aisle, but this thing is different. It has three high power LEDs each with a small optic, all sitting behind a diffuser screen. This...

Charging A123 cells with a PSU

One thing to be careful about when using a CV/CC power supply unit to charge cells. Be sure to set your voltage and current before attaching the cells, not afterwards. If your voltage is set lower than your cells when you hook them up, there is a good chance you will fry some diodes in your PSU...

In need of a BRIGHT Boat Spot Light.

The light has done well with Lithium AA cells in my experience, even though Streamlight won't certify them. It has also resisted water extremely well, though I have not tried to dive with it.

In need of a BRIGHT Boat Spot Light.

Take a look at the Streamlight Survivor LED. It is a yellow or orange plastic, tough as nails right angle light with a deep reflector for an intense hot spot. Though it uses a Luxeon LED, it has a lot of throw. Its waterproof, regulated, and runs on 4 AA cells. If you use Lithium AA cells, it...

Collision with Freighter averted with L1D

Well, that may be a bit of hyperbole. Anyway, last month I was crew on a boat racing from St. Petersburg, FL to Isla de Mujeres, Mexico. I was brought on as the sail trim expert, but little did they know the collection of lights that would accompany me. One of the crew, who goes by "Stiffler"...

Romisen RC-T5 4-Cree - notes on Shark driver upgrade

I just received a second RC-T5 to modify for use as a bike light, and did some Lux and current draw comparisons with my first one that has been modified with the Shark/Remora boards. Keep in mind that there may be differences in the Vf/efficiencies of the LEDs between the two that may account...

Romisen RC-T5 4-Cree - notes on Shark driver upgrade

I've heard of people mixing thermal paste into two part epoxy to get some kind of thermal epoxy, but I don't know what mixing grease into epoxy would do for its bonding properties, I don't think it would be good. Maybe it would be good enough to use as a potting compound.

    Buck driver suggestions

I'll bet input current will exceed 3 amps, but might stay under the 4 amp input limit even toward the end of Li-ion discharge. Let us know how it turns out. I would just make sure the Shark is thermal epoxy potted, because it will be dissipating a couple of watts of power itself while trying...

Romisen RC-T5 4-Cree - notes on Shark driver upgrade

Bryan - LEDs are current driven devices. You want to regulate the current to the desired level, let the voltage fall where it may. This is in contrast to incandescent bulbs which are voltage driven. If you don't regulate current, and drive it with a fixed voltage level that at first seems...
