    Stainless Steel and Titanium

If the ti nitride coated drill bits are any indication these hard coatings are possible on steel as well. The easy and colorful anodize frequently seen on ti isn't very scuff or scratch resistant. Also something to consider is that new "powdered metal" type technologies have changed the rules...

HDS EDC Cree XR-E mod discussion....

If I weren't on dialup I'd post some but dealing with a slow connection and going through a hosting service where I always forget my password just makes posting pics too time consuming and my GF gets on me about spending too much time on the puter as it is.

HDS EDC Cree XR-E mod discussion....

Please excuse the delays. I've been distracted with other interests lately so, while I would like to be a bit more thorough, I'll give the gist of what I did now. Basically the big difficulty was photon management so with that in mind I used a dremel to widen out the area where the stock luxeon...

    Kershaw Leek : assisst /6AL4V/ ZDP-189

I got my zdp189 leek a few days ago. First , my new moto is, "titanium...who cares!". By this I mean that though ti is a neato material the real benefit of this knife is the steel and ti enthusiasm on cpf reminds me of teenage girls going crazy for boy bands. My knife needed a little tuneup...

New Fenix Digital Series! P1D and P1D CE with Cree XR-E !!

These lights are very interesting. SOS and Strobe are nice options to have if you can keep them buried in a rarely accessed menu somewhere but if you have to cycle through them they become a nuisance.

HDS EDC Cree XR-E mod discussion....

I received my P3's from downunder today and have completed modding my B42 with a Cree XR-E. Photon management was the most difficult part (that and soldering to those stupid little pads). I checked out numerous reflectors and found that the IMS20 and nuwai Q3 were best. I'd skip the stock...

    Nuwai Q3 TM-303X Cree XR-E Mod

I just got finished modding my B42 with a Cree XR-E p3 and after modding and testing mcr-20, 18 , IMS20 , aluminum replacement reflector from multilevel chinese light and Q3 reflector. The Q3 reflector is hands down the best as Mosport has discovered. For all practical purposes I can't tell...

    Why Titanium?

I wish the tires on my truck were solid gold , course, I wouldn't be driving on them anymore. The truck either for that matter.

    Why Titanium?

Oh, that's right, these flashlights aren't made of 6al4v or some other ti alloy or CP ti, the reason they are so expensive is that they are all solid Titanium nitride. Come on now, those TiN coated functioning tools are STEEL! With TiN deposited on them. Not Titanium. The...

    Why Titanium?

Don, Choice of material is certainly done to suit application. While your application in seawater , despite not marketing them as dive or swim lights certainly does exploit one of ti's strengths, Generally speaking though, I say Ti is lousy for flashlights because , relatively speaking, it...

    Why Titanium?

Same here. I'm also very skeptical about the price being "close to cost". Actually, I think it's horse pucky but if it isn't it's because they limited production, the Ti aspect most likely has nothing to do with it. I'm also somewhat disgusted with the whole titanium thing. Titanium is popular...

CPF tendency on holding Luxeon purchase

I'd be very surprised if the Cree Xr-E has put even a tiny dent in luxeon sales. The luxeons are a known quanitity with infrastructure in place and a developeing mainstream recognition. Mag has invested in luxeons. According to Fred at photonfanatic.com, lumileds still has aces up it's...

    Mcr17XR refector?

At the moment you could start calling the passenger side door from a 78 chevy van a McR-VandoorXR-E and they would probabally sell. :grin2: I am very interested in the McR-17XR for use in a HDS. The oring groove looks interesting. Would you post the dimensions?

    Alumina Oxide powder

Gram scales are very useful for postal measurement and a bunch of other things besides dealing drugs (gun powder, jewelry, batteries and they are very cheap). I have a scale that will measure in grams but am not a drug dealer but perhaps possessing this scale means probable cause because of the...
