Hi all, newbie to these forums.
I built myself a 10W Brightstar HID torch a few years ago and the globe has just died. Rather than simply replace the globe I'm thinking about retro fitting the canister and head to fit either a 21W HID or to go LED. I've looked a little at the LED stuff over the years but have not put any serious thought into it and I would love your collective experience/advice on what you'd do.
Firstly the rough specs of my current torch are:
Looking at the Brightstar site I could probably squeeze the 21W HID potted ballast into the canister and use the 21W globe (I assume this kit doesnt have a seperate ignitor.. I've emailed Brightstar to check this, awaiting reply).
However I like the idea of high power LED but haven't done enough research to know where to start. So.. What would you guys do/recommend. All advice appreciated..
Note, I'm in Perth, Western Australia in case supply of parts is a question/issue.
cheers Tony

Firstly the rough specs of my current torch are:
- Delrin canister and converted D-Cell maglite torch head, (cable length approx 800mm, heavy duty (10amp power) cable)
- Battery is currently 4am 12V NiMH battery pack
- Current (broken setup) is a BrightStar 10W HID with the ballast in the canister (sits above battery) with the ignitor and globe in the torch head (pretty obviously..)
- Torch head has been machined to fit a standard MR16 size (i.e. Halogen style) globe
- Refer rough (not to scale but has measurements on it) pic below
