Anyone using infrared in the woods?

I have access to a FLIR E6 thermal cam through my work. I've been taking it into the woods this summer and fall just to see what's out there. Daytime is not too surprising (IR works day or night), but nighttime has shown everything from a possum to a black bear. It's a little hard to make out exactly what something is since the camera has a wide angle lens, but you can tell approximately what size and maybe distance an animal is at.

Anyone else using IR while hiking or camping?

How does it compare to NVG? the flir more for viewing once you're stationary or does it have sufficient view of the ground for walking?

I recommend you to inform yourself about this topic.
Resolution of NVG is much more higher an better for looking at the way near in front of you.
