Got lumens... I use a pyrometer for exact temp readings
the best method is to heat the forge to above critical temp
then soak the blade in the forge until the pyrometer comes down to the exact temp
(which varies for each type of steel combo)but its around 885celcius for some of my billets with 15n20 and 1085
the blade will be fully soaked and evenly heated
at this point it is quenched in veg oil
then edge tested and repeated up to 3 times total (triple quench)
this is no big secret, but it is the best way to get optimum performance from your steel
theres so much tech involved in proper treatment such as grain size and carbon migration,carbide structure
best look it up,start with metallurgy,heat treatment
