Today I am reviewing the Benchmade Triage 915. This knife has won numerous awards such as the 2011 EMS Innovation Award and the Shooting Industry Knife of the Year 2011. This knife is geared towards those who work in law enforcement, fire and EMS. The 915 Triage utility folder includes a knife, safety hook and glass breaker.
On to the business end of this Benchmade 915 Triage. The blade is a modified sheepsfoot design made from a N680 highly corrosion resistant blade steel (57-59HRC). Measuring at 3.50" inches and 0.130" (3.5mm) thick this blade is very good for all sorts of cutting task. I really like the modified sheepsfoot design because it allows you to wedge the blade under say a seat belt without stabbing with the tip of the blade. Out of the box this knife is VERY sharp. And it opens super fast and smooth which is attributed to the phosphor bronze bearing. Opening and closing this knife with one hand is very easy.
The hook-shaped safety cutter is made using a 440C steel that has a strong balance of wear and corrosion resistance while still staying sharp. You can use the hook to slice seatbelts, clothes, or rope without risk of cutting into the flesh of someone who's been trapped.
The carbide glass breaker is another aspect of the Triage that makes it the perfect rescue tool for outdoor adventures or first responders. Located conveniently on the end of the handle, the glass breaker can shatter a side window to allow for quick extraction, which is especially key in a worst-case scenario.
The body of the 915 Triage is constructed using 420J full stainless steel liners, G10 textured handles and Benchmades famous Axis lock system. The G10 textured handles allow you to get a firm non-slip purchase on the knife even in a wet environment. As you can see in the above picture it has a open back for easy cleaning and there is some decent jimping on the front and rear of the spine of the body for extra grip.
The pocket clip on this knife allows the knife to sit nice and low in the pocket. You can adjust the pocket flip for LEFT or RIGHT hand tip up only.
My final conclusion on the Benchmade 915 Triage: Overall this is just another great Benchmade knife. It has a ton of great features and is built using great quality materials back with a awesome warranty. Benchmade offers the 915 in two different G10 handle colors and a few different blade options.
