It is less common, but you can also get metal coatings "vacuum evaporated" onto objects. Every coating method has its pros and cons, but the nice thing about vacuum evaporated coatings is there is no bath to mess with. The downside is that it is sort of like coating with a high lux flashlight - it more or less is coming from one side, so multiple surface coatings requires moving the part.
