thanks for the photo,

trivia, there have been 3 different knurling styles on Maratacs (made by Lumintop), and Lumintop Tools

I notice your Maratac has two different styles of knurling, the body is an older version of knurling than the head.

my Maratac has two different styles also, but not the same as your Maratac body. The body on mine does not have the dimples. The knurling style on my Maratac body, matches the style on your Maratac head.

The head of my Maratac uses a flatter style of knurling than the body on mine and the head on yours:

the patinas differ atm because I use the Maratac daily, so it has less patina than the Tool.

true, but the smell is actually coming from our skin
copper and its alloys such as brass are actually antibacterial

a quick google of "copper smell" found this:

"The next time you smell something funny on your skin after you've handled pennies, don't blame it on the copper - that eau de metal is actually coming from you.

Researchers tested the effects of various metals on human skin and found that what smells is not the metal, but the rapid interaction of skin oils with iron, copper and brass. The chemical reaction causes new, strongly scented gaseous compounds to form.

Research conducted at Virginia Tech has demonstrated that vapors emanating from the skin of people who handled iron were shown to contain aldehydes and ketones, both organic chemicals that give off strong odors. For example, acetone is the active ketone found in pungent-smelling nail polish remover.

Tests by Andrea Dietrich, in collaboration with Dietmar Glindemann of the University of Leipzig, Germany, show that skin oils react by forming different compounds when we touch various metals. The researchers postulate that everyone produces slightly different odors, and those odors may change if a person has a disease, such as cancer. In such instances, the variations in the scents could become a useful medical diagnostic tool."

I also dislike the smell on my hands after handling copper, but I tolerate it by telling myself it is the smell of dead germs.. lol

My Maratac has a darker patina than my tool, more like an older copper penny. Both have had about the same amount of pocket time. Probably different alloy batches depending on the time they were made. I never noticed the knurling on the Maratac before. Interesting.

I never noticed the knurling on the Maratac befor
fun sharing Maratac love w you
besides knurling differences, there are also driver changes.. around September 2015, when that old style knurling was phased out, the driver stopped using PWM that is present in earlier drivers.

The newer drivers have shorter runtime.. win some, lose some
