Hi mudman cj,
I'm building a 3 cell mag with a P7 emitter. What size wire will I need to run this thing? To be honest I think the emitter is a J bin so if the wire is a little undersized it would act like a resister and maybe not overdrive the emitter so much when the batts are hot off the charger.Does that make sense or should I just run the right size wire and make sure the heatsinking is as good as posible.

Sgt. LED & JimmyM - your packages are on their way to you. Thanks very much for your orders.
I received my order today. Gorgeous stuff. I can't wait to vonvert my first Mag switch with it.
However... Waaayyyyy to well packaged. Dude, save a buck and stick that stuff in a padded envelope. Really.

JimmyM - yeah, normally I would have, but I didn't have any envelopes big enough to fit your order. I only keep stock of the little ones.

Don - from what I have read a direct drive P7 J bin on 3 Nimh cells should pull <3 amps. This is nominally the case since the cells will deliver about 3.6V and the LED would need about 3.7V to be fully driven. For this I recommend 22 or 20 gauge. To be sure you are not going to overdrive it more than you are comfortable with, you could wire it up and measure the current on fully charged cells, then if the current is higher than you like I could recommend a resistor to add in the tailcap.
