I've been looking for a good spotlight for bird/animal spotting on overseas trips. Would the 14w/24w lights, like the AE models, be suitable for vacation/safari travel? I seem to remember hearing HID bulbs were pretty susceptible to shock damage.

Conventional rechargeable spots are abit bulky to pack. Plus the only last for 20 min. or so and take forever to recharge. The Mag 85 is alright, but care and feeding is a bit of the pain in the ***. I would like a little more throw also. I'd love to find a good, strong, reliable light. As neat as they are, I'm tired of waiting for (and paying for) the latest Mag 3d mods.

HID's aren't as small as most flashlights but they aren't that bad. You can carry them with ease, just a little bigger than a mag lite, the AE 24w is around 15 inches long and a little fatter than a mag lite. Long range and 2 hours run time. Oh, HID bulbs are not that fragile, there is no filement to break. 2.5 hour charge time.
