Any idea on when some more 6 AA > 2 D adapters will be available? Probably not in time to get them by x-mas huh?

Welcome to CPF!

I'll have a small number done later this evening... Which means I could have them in the mail no later than thursday... Not sure what kind of delays they are running right now for first class... if you need one by christmas I may be able to work something out with a faster shipping speed... let me know if you want me to check into this and I'll give you a price.

Eric

PS: [EDIT IN]: Assuming you are here in the states.... I was at the post office earlier, they said that for guaranteed christmas delivery the best bet at this point would be priority mail no later than the 20th. I don't normally do anything but first class to keep it simple, but if you really need one by christmas have your order in no later than the 19th (end of the day) with $5 included for shipping 1 6AA adapter and I will have it in the mail on the 20th.

Great, I'm in for one of the 6AA, but I also want a 9AA in that shipment. How much do you want for the shipping in that case? You said throw in $5 for the 6AA, do you need $2 or $3 more for the second adapter? Will send money as soon as I have a response.

Sorry I've been out of town all day, just got back home, I think $7 shipping should probably cover a 9AA and 6AA for priority mail :)

Hi mdocod,

Would you be able to make me one that is 6AA-2D running at 2.4V? That would be 3 parallel sets of 2 series. I know I could use D size nimh, but I'd really like to stick to AAs...

I am ready to paypal if this is possible... :D

Thanks!

Yes, that's not a problem.. I do make a few like that by special request once and awhile. I'll contact you via PM when I have one ready to go for you.... can you give me a few days? Busy week with the holidays and all.

Wait on payment until I have contacted you with news of a unit ready to ship.

Thank You,
Eric

Hello mdocod,
I am going to use the 12 AA serial adapter with 64625 or 62138 Osram lamps. What will be approximately runtime? Ni-MH AA with 2500 mah capacity for example.
Thanks

The 64625 and 62138 are both ~9-10 amp loads...

2500mAH NIMH cells aren't going to work with those bulbs very well, for very long. They may work ok on the first few cycles, but they'll wear out really fast and develop intolerable self-discharge rates and poor performance very quickly. Most consumer cells are good up to around 5-6 amps but will still wear out quickly even at these rates due to internal resistance issues.... Using 2500mAH cells at 10 amps is a great way to get them into the trash really fast.

Eneloops can handle 10 amps, but the performance wouldn't be exactly great. They are some of the only consumer cells that will tolerate ~10 amps (that's what those bulbs draw), and hold above 1V at 10 amps through most of the discharge, maintaining ~1.5+AH capacity at that rate. Runtime on eneloops would probably be 9-10 minutes.

I personally suggest; Titanium PowerMax AA 1800mAH cells. While having a similar ~1.5AH capacity into this load as the eneloops, they are going to maintain about 0.05V per cell better through the discharge. That will equate to better brightness. SilverFox's testing shows these to be some very strong performers, and they are available with button tops, so they will work with these adapters. Also 9-10 minute range for runtime.

Have a study over here:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=79302

You'll see that he does throw a 10 amp test on a few cells here and there, and in most cases it's a wasted effort as most cells just don't do well there. Falling to 0.9V before delivering even 1 AH capacity.

$62 Payment sent for 3 Adapters
2 - 6AA 2D Adapters $40
1 - 9AA 3D Apapter $22

Thanks!

mdocod,
thanks for the info! In this case Osram 64440 IRC or even 64432 IRC will be the best solution for 12AA battery adapter.
Regards.
