I lost my favorite Preon flashlight that had the perfect user interface.
The Preons went off production and the new ones don't have the same interface.
Does anyone know of a flashlight that has these characteristics?
- 2 AAA batteries
- full click to turn on
- while on, tap the power button to change modes
- three modes: low, medium, high
- full click to turn off

Reylight's penlight fits the bill, but it's somewhat pricey and isn't available in aluminum. It's programmable, comes with a 10880 rechargeable battery, but also can use 2 AAA. I have it's 10440/1 AAA little brother and it's a great light.

Thanks. You're right. That's the one I need. I'll order one.

Well, there's my EDC back-up light.
Powertac Sabre.
Meets almost all of your criteria. But the modes are High, Low, Strobe.
One of the absolute best and most useful lights out of my massive collection.

I know you want a penlight, but the Frelux Synergy 1.5 has exactly the batteries and UI that you are looking for. Take a look at it; it's an excellent light. Maybe for another time or use.

deFloyd77 ... have you found a good source for a 10880 battery?

I haven't actually searched for 10880 batteries since I don't (yet) have a light that uses them. If you're ordering from Reylight, maybe try emailing him to see if you could by some extras from him.

Flashlights with "permanent" rechargeable batteries are so handy and quick to recharge. Without knowing your application, this may not work but some experimentation might yield a lighter, plenty bright, useful workhorse.

Of course you may want the format you specified; perfectly legitimate.

I took your advice and contacted https://reylight.net/ ... he responded and put the batteries on his website for sale! Finally a good source!

Some suggestions from your other thread pointed to ReyLight as well:

The reylight does have a downside though, the high modes aren't as regulated as the Preon. The 100% level is just a one minute burst, then drops much lower.
