CA yes, it will run on 17670, I used it as a bed side light and couldn't really tell too much difference between 2 CR123 and 1 17670. my unprotected 17670 (ultrafire, I think) fit in snug but YMMV on the battery fitting.

Losing brightness is not really an issue - just didn't want to have to keep using primaries. I'll try an unprotected cell and see how it fits before investing in some of AW's protected ones.
