my 150 lumen fenix seems to be as useful as my acebeam 1800 lumens. sure the 1800 is a tad brighter even measures way brighter but walking thru woods at night it isnt that more useful as my 150 lumen light. plus do any companys give accurate lumen ratings ?

Here the main value is lux and the shape of the beam. I remember SF E2D with 200 lm, it gives a very dense beam, or modern LEP, for example, that small 14500 battery Lumintop, only 165 lumens and 590 meters. It's good to stand with them and look at something, but walking along a dark path is not very good without a diffuse filter, the eyes get too tired from a small and bright spot.
Something similar to Tri-V but with parallel batteries it would be very good. For example this, just reduce the size to parallel 2 * 14500 (2*AA) and insert the LEP from the Luminop. And Anduril control with ramping. Frelux comes close to this, but it only has 1 mid/short range emitter.

For woods/trail walking it's not the output but the shape of the beam. You get 1500 or so lumens in a spot it's useless put that in to a really wide flood pattern and your golden.

Assuming a good combination of both throw and flood, I'll take the absolute brightest light I can get for my main EDC flashlight. To me, that's the most useful light.

200-350 lumen is all i need for practical daily use. I feel safe with 450-550 lumen for tactical use. I don't need 1000 lumens to look under the couch. With the proper beam a 250-500 lumen light can seem just as bright and useful than 1000-1500L with too much flood.
