robm,
1. If use star/round board, all you need is to cut them like my pictures, or find small board size max. or smaller than 17mm would be fine.
2. Both epoxy & grease are OK, grease will be easier for future upgrade like Cree Q5 or R4. The reflectors press down all star/emitter to the heatsink pretty well.
3. Sure it could be done with bare emitters. Star would be easier only. If use emitters, epoxy should be applied.

Thanks 3rd shift for the tutorial.

I try to prepare a tutorial, for me, Mag2C drive with MaxFlex to Cree x5 is the best of the best.

Cheers!

Thanks for the responses - a few more questions though :)

What should I use to cut the stars?
Would 4 stars w/20mm reflectors fit without cutting?
Any recommendations for reflectors for Cree LEDs (most seems to be for Luxeon/Seoul)?

Thanks again.

Hi robm,
I just use the normal cutting pliers.

The minium length of the star is 20mm, but max. Length is 20.5mm, the corners touch the edge that it need to be cutted to fit 4 stars inside the head. 20mm is the Max size can fit 4 inside the Head. Stars need to be cutted!

The small Cree reflectors is coming, please wait a few more days.

Stay tuned!

I must admit, I had my doubts when I 1st got the heatsinks, but they really do work great!
The heat transfer from the leds to the aluminum flashlight body is excellent. :)
I used thermal grease in the heatsink threads,
and inside the flashlight head where the heatsink contacts the bottom and sides.

The reflectors also appear to do well for Seoul P4 leds with a good beam focus for thier size. :wow:

Would it be possible to get a few more pictures from different angles? This looks very interesting indeed :)

Any chance of getting a complete drop-in for a newer Mag C with 5 Crees? Would/have you done complete setups to drop in a 2C with AW's LiIon cells?
