Will spare ARB-L14-1100U batteries be available for purchase?
Thanks for your question. We don't have an announcement on that yet but anticipate that in the near future. When it is announced, we will post here.

Will this light work with 2 14500 cells like Orbtronic 1100 mAh protected 14500s? Is the included battery made of two such cells or one longer one with a spacer? If it's made with 2 14500s, are they wired in series or parallel (is the input voltage 4.2 or 8.4 volts)?

I've sent this to the Fenix engineer for an answer. I will post his answer when I hear back. Thanks!

Really hoping the battery is not proprietary.
Same here. If the battery is one 1100 mAh cell, they could have done that with one 14500 and the light will be disappointing. If they made the battery with 2 1100 mAh 14500s in parallel, it might make a usb charging circuit easier to make, but won't work with any other two 14500 batteries. Best setup would be 2 1100 mAh 14500 cells in series so you could use 2 non proprietary 14500s as backup cells.

Here is the info the Fenix engineer sent:
'
It can be compatible with 2*14500 batteries installed in series, and the voltage is 8.4V. The included battery is with two such cells.

Also, considering the current size of the ARB-L14-800 is longer than the regular AA battery, so the team is getting it upgraded to the ARB-L14-1050 battery to be compatible, as you can see from the attached image compared with the regular AA battery. Below are the recommended batteries and usable battery for information.'

Surprised no one asked this question yet, but is there any technical reason this chargeable battery won't work in the original LD22? If not, besides my eneloops, is it possible to use a lithium ion battery in the original LD22?

Off topic, but I need to replace the tail cap rubber button protector as it has disintegrated exposing the actual button. I looked everywhere but I don't see it listed for sale.
