Hello everyone! I used to be a member long ago; but let membership lapse as tugged in other directions. Now need your expertise and experience...

I'm seeking headlamp recommendations for myself, wife, and 11 year old son. It'd be mainly general use. Probably walking through the woods some in the dark. Looking fairly seriously at the following two products (HM71 gift Set at second link).

Not sure which would be best. Not sure if the additional size / weight of the 21700 battery offset by capacity vs 18650.

Also seeking guidance as to any downsides with the new Nitecore 6000mAh 21700 battery.

Open to other suggestions as well vendors. Hoping to get as Christmas presents so will likely need to order soon.

THANKS in advance for any assistance / guidance you can offer!

I guess you have to figure out if the extended run time is worth the small increase in weight.
It's pretty incredible that Nitecore is able to produce a 6000mah 21700 battery! Hopefully other manufacturers are able to follow suit and produce 21700 batteries of the same capacity.
Another headlamp to consider, look into the Fenix HM61R 2.0.

Otherwise if you're looking for the ability to customize your headlamps, look no further than SkyLumen.com

Good luck with your decision 👍

Thanks! Was in a bit of a bind time wise so went ahead and ordered four of the Fenix HM71 gift sets. Have a nagging feeling I'm going to regret not going with a lighter weight one; but...

You're welcome! I think that those will serve you well and it's nice that they include a little extra flashlight with the headlamp.

I'm looking for 21700 headlamp too. The HM71 ticks a lot of boxes and is high on my list. Hope they work out for you.

One of the people I gave one to was extremely impressed and uses it a lot. He said he has about seven cheap ones that weren't reliable or bright so he is happy with it.
Neither my son nor my wife have really used theirs. I probably should have gone with a different (lighter) one for them.
I have used mine a little. A little heavier on the head, quite a bit less throw, and it gets hot faster than I had anticipated; but I think it will work well. It definitely lights things up around you. Probably not great choice for distance.
The little light that came with it is brighter than I had anticipated. Nice keychain addition. Overall, I'm satisfied; but still need something for distance...
