Re: SST-50 EDC 4th Run now *Closed for now*

I'm on board; paypal sent for a Ti Light with clip, shipping and insurance.

$300+30+5+6=$341

Having some trouble deciding on the engine (between 1.4amp and 2.8amp three level engines) and led...can you please give me a day or two to read through the other threads to find out a little more about them?

My gut says go with 1.4 amp, but the little  inside is telling me to get some IMRs and go with the 2.4 amp.

Anyone know whether "intermittent" is minutes or seconds...
What is the difference between the two on low and medium?

Thanks Mac for making this available and thanks in advance for a little patience while I select the engine/led. (Sorry for the indecision; want to make sure I get the right one.)

Easy choice Illum -get both:party:
I have a 1.4 and it's heaps of light with no special battery needed -EDC.
I'm getting the 2.8 only for the WOW factor.

Cheers

How would you compare the 1.4 to the Haiku or the Arc6? Those are the two brightest lights I have right now; the Arc6 is considerably floodier than the haiku, but still has something of a hotspot.

I'd like to add my vote for a future run of a turbo 18650 version. Paypal will be locked and loaded (at the start of June, lol.)

Best,

Sorry Fyrstormer - don't have either of those lights but looking at beamshots of those 2 i'd say Mac's light has a larger hotspot VERY well blended into the spill.
From 40ft it looks all flood, from 5ft you can see the hotspot but it's not distracting.
All in all -a fantastic beam -though can't tell you how bright it is compared to the Haiku or Arc6.

Though when i have a triple R2 WH tint bike light running at 500mA and i reckon if the tint of the bike light was the same as Mac's (4500K),Mac's would be brighter.

Cheers

I have a XR-E Haiku and a SPY 007 (first run), I can make a comparison when I get Mac's EDC and my IMR cells.

LOL. Buying both now not an option - but believe me I did consider it. Actually I thought of getting the 1.4 in ti and the 2.8 in al for the better heat sinking, but I am going to keep myself to one light at this time (ti body).

Can anyone with the 2.8 in ti tell me realistically how long they can use it?

Also are low and med the same levels in the 2.8 and 1.4?

Does the 2.8 require IMR for all levels?

Re: SST-50 EDC 4th Run now *Closed for now*

Okay, I'm just going to stick with the 1.4amp driver for now, because my Arc6 makes plenty of light @1.4A and I don't own any IMR cells right now. My order stands as-is.

Maybe in the future Mac can start offering small runs of bare drivers for those of us who like to mix-n-match. :naughty:

Oh, and I paid for insurance, but that's not noted in the list. Just wanted to make sure that didn't get overlooked. :)

Re: SST-50 EDC 4th Run now *Closed for now*

Get the 2.8 driver since it is just bright enough for me. I have the aluminum version, and the IMR battery only last 15-20 minutes, and when it is held in your hand the light does not get that hot. 3rd run thread mentions that you can run AW RCR123 batteries, but just don't push it. The medium and lower levels do not need IMR batteries.
