Then it seems to be fine for a day or two then does it again. This is reported from a handyman friend of mine. I asked if it had gotten wet; he said no. Told him sounds like an electronic switch issue. He is not going for a warranty replacement. Any ideas for a fix or diagnosis?

Hate to say it, but the TIP is one of the least reliable models Nitecore makes. Speaking from experience here. The buttons on mine literally popped off after only a couple of weeks of owning it. Best solution, zero sarcasm, replace it with a completely different model.
