I'm telling myself that I've really spent nothing when I compare it to what you all have spent. Lol, I didn't mean to offend anyone by asking.
Oh I understand now.

"Sweety, $1,000 for these flashlights really isn't a lot of money to spend er, I mean, to invest in flashlights. There are folks on CPF that have tens of thousands of dollars invested in flashlights! So its no big deal, Hon. Wait, you're going to your mother's house?! No, Hon, wait! Listen to me! Loo--look at this thread Sweety, I, I'm not LYING! REALLY! Oh, sh*t!"

I'm more of a user than a collector, anyway I'd say I try and keep a lower amount of lights. I don't like owning things and having them sit and collect dust. I have a total of about 6 main lights and some other cheaper ones throughout the house. I'd say around $600-$700

I tend to buy/sell a lot and recycle my lights. As of now, I'm enjoying my setups very much to the point I don't need to purchase any more lights

Two idioms come to mind:
1. Don't use bad behavior to justify more bad behavior.
2. Comparing yourself to others leads to bad behavior. See #1. above.

Personally, no offense was taken. We're good, Bro. 😄

How much money have you invested into your light collection?
If you added up the numbers, how much would it cost to replace it all?

I know there are other threads that list models, but this one could just be total price.
Average $300 each. $ 55,500 .All ready to go. 185 lights. Converted to led and li-ion. Many bored. 90%. MCCLICKIE Pictures don't do it justICE. I'm not much of a photographer?. Gold anodized old 6P one of my favorites. I go thru ebay everyday. Sort of disabled so I have plenty of time. Couple of years in Southeast Asia were not good. NSA DaNang. Incoming. TET OFFENSIVE. 1968. Don't get me wrong. I'm not looking to sell, just talk. My wife can get a service to help her sell them when I'm gone. Maybe. She has her own little (15) SF collection.l'm 73 yrs old. She's only 49. Been married a while. 24yrs difference. Starting to ramble. Hope this gets to rat in Australia. I lost his info.

A dozen e1es. All colors all working . 2 flats, led. Mostly new. No boxes. I don't collect cardboard. From $100 to $1,400. I could talk about them for hours . Talk but not text. Too difficult and slow.

I just spent 2 hours digging up 15 year old receipts, and I am still missing some of the lights on my list + I had to do some guesstimates, but...I've spent roughly 2300 USD for all of the 41 lights I currently have.

And this is not counting accessories, chargers or batteries.

Attaching an image of the different types (and sizes) I have. I'm not a collector, per say, but I do like to have different lights for different tasks.
My "pride and joy" is my Fenix TK76 that I have 3x battery carriers on, for a total 12x 18650's.
Other favourites are the Fenix PD35 from 2014, and the newly aquired Fenix HP30R v2.0.

I would hazard to guess I've probably spent at least $30,000 on this hobby over the past ten years or so. I keep all my receipts, have yet to total them. Pretty sure I could tell you what I paid for every light I own though. Well over 400 lights, WELL over.... most of them are approaching or are already collectible. Those that aren't will likely be sold in the next year before I go back to school. Most of the lights I buy now are exclusively for collect-ability. About 50 see regular hard use. Used to be easy to hit my "I definitely want that" line, quite tough now.

I spend more on cycling and electronics by far than lights. The last year I've bought a bunch of those 2x18650 or 2x21700 China bike lights. Love 'em. Remaining run time indicator, at least 300 lumens on high. Last two were around 2,000 lumens. Very well made. Not much over $20. I have 9 of them so far. They also double as great flashlights. On the lowest setting they can all run for over 24 hours with maybe 100 lumens output. Great for power outages. USB rechargeable so no messing around with batteries. Only downside is they're probably not using the best emitters in terms of either efficiency or CRI. I could swap them out for something better down the road, perhaps when they start dimming noticeably.

Lights wise probably around $3,000.

I have what I need now, sold off all others that I didn't have a need for and never used.

Over the past 20 years I've learned what I actually need and use ... so over the last 5 years I've sold off stuff that I just don't need. No point it the stuff just sitting there collecting dust I suppose!

I'll be honest.... I have to have back-ups, for my back-ups when it comes to lights. I literally have amassed enough lights and batteries in the last 20 years to equip an ARMY! (And, I don't mean a small one either.)
