Re: XHP50.2 WOW

if im not mistaking the biggest gain in the 50.2 and 70.2 is the dies being closer together. they can be in a smooth reflector no prolemo. TN42 with a 50.2 or 70.2 here we come!

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

from cree.....

xhp 50 - up to 2546 lm @ 19 w

xhp 50.2 - Up to 2654 lm @ 18 w

extra 108 lumens looks like
so thats roughly a 4% increase
you would think they could of done better than that
like at least close to 3000 lumens
sorry if i rained in the parade :duh2:

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

Vinh said it was noticeable so that's good enough for me.

That's not good. Unless it's cerakote blue then that's ok.

XHP50.2 is much easier to overdrive thus much larger gain. I think it has to do with the lower 5.6V VS 5.75V forward voltage!!!!

2546/19= 134 lumen per watt
2654/18= 147.44 lumen per watt

Thats 10% more efficient
on top of that you add a lower forward voltage of 5.6V for the XHP50.2 VS the 5.75V for the XHP50 (2.7% less potential difference needed to drive them electrons) and you have a CLEAR WINNER

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

I must order another R50vn asap.... and whatever else that has a 50 in it.

You have a point. So would an r50vn xhp50.2 make more lumens and throw than the r50vn xhp70?

Patiently waiting for the numbers on the last two. I would love to see the Eagtac get close to 200K lux, but that might be hoping for too much.

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

I would love to see a mx25l4 form light with the T21/T30 reflecor and a 50.2 led. This would seem to me that might get that 3000 lumen 300K lux light in a reasonably compact form that I THINK that would satisfy my present thirst. But what do I know?

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

The performance XHP-50.2 is much higher than I though it would be. Just when I though it was safe to go back onto Vinh's forums.....

XHP-50.2 goes into the industry, Vinh's in the industry, our Vinh..... Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies:whistle: ....Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain:whistle:

It will certainly have more throw than an xhp70 and the lumen output will be closer, but I expect the 70, and for sure the 70.2, will still have a bit more out the front lumens.

The question is whether the xhp50.2 dome can be shaved without producing an undesirable beam color.

+1. I thought I heard something about the dome material that it is different and can't be sliced off neatly? Not sure if I'm not remembering the correct dome conversation though. Still obviously interested where the XHP-50.2 goes.

David, I'm pretty sure that conversation was about the XPG3 or the XPL2. It may apply here too. [emoji4]

Re: XHP50.2 WOW

Stack, my comment regarding the xhp50.2 and whether an SD version would produce a quality beam was based merely on twistedraven's post. I don't have a clue myself, but if shaving or dedoming the new 50 won't be a viable option then that might be a deal breaker for me.

I believe the dies are closer in together too? Is the entire dome now the yellow phosphor instead of clear? If that were the case then dedoming would result in a very blue light.

Oh yeah you're correct Steve, that conversation was definitely about the xpg3.

EDIT: Not twistedraven's comments... they actually were regarding the xhp50.2. The xpg3 convo took place in another subforum. Just to be clear. lol

What about a 502.
