I got some Warm-White Cree XR-E emitters from LED Supply last week, and they looked much warmer than our Favourlight WW lanterns. Favourlight WW is about equivalent to neutral white bin of the Cree emitter.

So I decided to mod one of my Favourlight's with the XR-E emitter I got.

There was quite a bit of difference, see my pic below:



Notes: The only difficult in taking off the emitter was the fact the emitter was flow soldered onto the board and the solder joints were under the emitter. The only option was to heat up both + and - pads on the board (Get a good grip of the emitter with a pliers first. Then heat up one pad first and quickly switch the solder iron to the other pad and twist the emitter at the same time to take it off.)

I wonder how this "off the shelf" warm white LED lantern would compare with your mod'd version. It looks like it has the same shell and possibly close to the same warm CREE LED.
