Maximum Temp. of AA nihm Rechargeable Batteries

Hi, What is the Maximum temp. that a Nihm AA batery can withstand during charging without causing damage to the battery? Also, how can the average person check the temp. of the battery just after charging? Thank you very much.

Hello Dan,

Welcome to CPF.

We like to see temperatures below 120 F. If you can't pick up the cell, it is probably too hot.

The best performance from NiMh cells comes when the cells are in the 140 F to 160 F range, and used "hot off the charger." This works great if your application uses the cells up before they have a chance to cool down, but can result in dead cells after as little as 10 cycles.
