Bluetooth Experts: need wireless sound at work.

I am wanting to setup some bluetooth at work, so that I can use an ear piece to listen to music, and vids.

My main question is this,
I have an ear piece that came with my cell phone, and seems to work fine.
But, the computer at work does not have blue tooth.
I have not used Bluetooth much, how compatible are all the Bluetooth products?
Can I simply buy a Bluetooth USB transmitter for the work computer, and use my existing ear piece from my cell phone?
Or do I have to buy matched pairs of components?

If this will work, what is a good cheap USB Bluetooth to get?

Bluetooth is nothing more than a protocol like Wifi. You have to be sure of this:

Make sure your transmitter and your headset support A2DP. That's your best chance of it working for sure.

Just pick up a bluetooth dongle. You can find them cheap on ebay. It will work fine.
